Bend picks new assistant city manager

City of Bend hires Jon Skidmore as assistant city manager.

Jon Skidmore will be Bend City Manager Eric King's new right hand man, King confirmed today.

The city has been searching for a new assistant city manager for some time. Earlier this year, the city rejected a group of candidates in an effort to find the right fit, said King.

Skidmore had been serving as interim assistant city manager during part of the search process.

The former Jefferson County Community Development director was tapped last spring to become the City of Bend’s business advocate and liaison. In this role he fostered communication between the business community and the city’s Bend Economic Development Advisory Board, more commonly referred to as BEDAB.

In the role, Skidmore aimed to streamline processes for local businesses dealing with the city. He often advised the city council on how businesses would be impacted by council decisions.

King will formally announce the hiring at tonight's city council meeting.
