Tour De France - Stage 3

Well I'm 4 for 4 calling stage wins in this years tour! How long can I keep this up!

Today is was Peter Sagan putting in a very impressive uphill sprint to take his second stage win in three days in his first ever tour. The 22 year old from Slovakia continues to stamp his authority on the pro peloton with this being his 16th win of the season.

Sylvain Chavanel put in a mighty dig with about 4k to go, making a move for the stage win and the yellow jersey, but in the end did not have the legs to pull off the double. None other than Sagan teammate Ivan Basso (one of the former Tour runners up set to inherit a yellow jersey if the current doping allocations against Armstrong are upheld) pulled back the frenchman to set up Sagan for the beautiful win.

As expected today was a nervous and fast stage. There were numerous crashes in the final 40k that saw big time loses for such riders as Christian Vande Velde and Philippe Gilbert. Most of the other favorites made it through fine, although Bradley Wiggins was caught behind a crash in the last kilometer, but still received the same time as all the other favorites because it was within the final 3km.

Tomorrow's stage 4 should be one for the sprinters and I'm going to call Mark Cavendish again for this one. He took a chaotic intermediate sprint today that showed just how strong he is sprinting at the moment, I just don't think anyone has the legs to beat him right now.

Wind might have an effect on the race tomorrow, resulting in splits in the peloton. The before mentioned Armstrong put major time into his rivals on a similar stage on the north coast of France due to strong headwinds back in the day. I have a feeling BMC may try just such a tactic if the opportunity presents itself.
