Your support for independent local news is important.

The Source Weekly has been Central Oregon’s locally owned news outlet for over 23 years. We have always been the definition of "support local." Our success in navigating this new world is tied to the success we experience in pulling together for the common good.

Quality local journalism takes a group of dedicated reporters passionate about democracy and open government. This story is the result of our hard work, and in normal times, the result of the support of the advertisers in Central Oregon. In the age of COVID-19, however, that support has taken a hit—but that’s where you come in.

Viral Vid Prompts NYC to Fix Step Within Hours

Viral video gets subway station step fixed within hours.

Posted By on Fri, Jul 6, 2012 at 4:49 PM

Here’s the story:

Dean Peterson, New York City resident, notices that a step at his subway station is screwed up.

And instead of uselessly complaining, like a whole bunch of Bend gadflies that I will not name in this email but know who they are, this guy made a clever little video.

You need to use a flashplayer enabled browser in order to view this video

AND HE GOT HIS STEP FIXED!

Read the NYC article about how "hours after the video was posted, in what maintenance workers classified as perhaps the fastest response to a customer complaint in agency history, a crew was dispatched to inspect the step."

Awesome. Hero status to Dean Peterson!
