Coverage for Central Oregon, by Central Oregonians.
100% Local. No Paywalls.

Every day, the Source publishes a mix of locally reported stories on our website, keeping you up to date on developments in news, food, music and the arts. We’re committed to covering this city where we live, this city that we love, and we hear regularly from readers who appreciate our ability to put breaking news in context.

The Source has been a free publication for its 22 years. It has been free as a print version and continued that way when we began to publish online, on social media and through our newsletters.

But, as most of our readers know, times are different for local journalism. Tech giants are hoovering up small businesses and small-business advertising—which has been the staple for locally owned media. Without these resources, journalism struggles to bring coverage of community news, arts and entertainment that social media cannot deliver.

Please consider becoming a supporter of locally owned journalism through our Source Insider program. Learn more about our program’s benefits by clicking through today.

Burn What You Can, Bury the Rest...

Posted By on Sat, Aug 18, 2012 at 8:00 AM

Whats the sexiest animals on the farm? Brown chicken brown cow. Get it? You will if you cruise down to Silver Moon Brewing tonight to see the West Virginia string band Brown Chicken Brown Cow. Comprised of Justin Morris, Xander Hitzig, Orion Hitzig, Matt Del Olmo and Kat Fountain this constantly touring all-acoustic quintet (they prefer tribe) blends Appalachian String music with folk and bluegrass to create an original sound that is both old-timey and fresh.

Burn What You Can, Bury the Rest…” is the title of Bradley Wik and the Charlatans deeply satisfying new album released in March of this year. Although the band is based out of Portland, Wik’s roots lie in the Midwest and that sensibility is reflected in their straight up blue-collar rock reminiscent of early Petty and Springsteen. They will be at the Horned Hand tonight and if you’re going to drop by the band has one simple request. Bring your dancing shoes and a desire to have fun. There’s lots of sweat, Rock N’ Roll and booze to be had by all.
