Redmond to unveil new public sculpture amid arts fest Saturday

Posted By on Fri, Sep 28, 2012 at 11:56 PM

Redmond officials will cut the ribbon on their latest public art installation a 35-foot-tall sculpture, dubbed Thoughts of Flight, tomorrow as part of the city’s Passport to the Arts Event.

Thoughts is one of fourteen public artworks currently on display in downtown Redmond, six of those pieces, including the latest addition are on loan to the city from artists. The city plans to purchase one of those works after a public vote to select the piece.

That purchase will be funded partially through donations and fundraisers, including Saturday’s event in which residents are encouraged to purchase a $25 passport. Visitors can have their passport stamped as they visit the cities public art works where artists will be on hand to discuss their pieces. At the end of the tour, art fans can redeem their passport for a commemorative ceramic coaster.

The event begins at 10 a.m. with a ribbon cutting for the new sculpture and runs through 4 p.m. with entertainment and vendors in Centennial Park.
