Life, liberty and Ron Paul's America

Retiring Libertarian presidential candidate Ron Paul delivered a farewell speech last wednesday that stacks up to the political diction revered by America's forefathers. Paul, who spent over 23 years in office, said since 1976, he has kept the same goal of "promoting peace and prosperity by a strict adherence to the principles of individual liberty." So why hasn't America backed Paul's libertarianism ideals? Don't we want to achieve autonomy without undermining our government? Are we so concerned with our economic welfare that personal liberties are being eliminated one by one for our own "safety"?

Paul believes that "to achieve liberty and peace, two emotions have to be overcome." Envy and Intolerance, the root of all disagreement between political parties is something that we cannot avoid but merely accept. We should look at this congressional injustice and turn it into constructive criticism. Even the Declaration of Independence explains this breach of liberty. It states that "when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security." Hopefully, President Obama can take our democratic makeup and continue the push toward repairing our economic and personal liberties from skyrocketing deficits, excessive taxes and political tyranny. The change starts with a simple notion that Paul elicits as "the total resistance to admitting the country is broke."
America can't be broke or should I say broken, you make the call.
