Blizzard Warning? | The Source Weekly - Bend, Oregon

Blizzard Warning?

I just wanted to give a special thank you to Verizon Wireless for waking me and countless other Verizon subscribers at 3 a.m. this morning and again at 9:30 a.m. with a severe weather alert text message that sounded like a cruise ship horn or like a prison break was happening. Really?!?
The message described that there was a blizzard warning in the area until 1 p.m. monday. It also said to prepare and avoid travel.
Although I can't predict the weather and I think it's highly unlikely that a blizzard was going to occur, was it really necessary to scare the crap out of people in the middle of the night?!? A simple regular sounding text message would've been fine and perhaps at a reasonable hour.
With all due respect to the National Weather Service, I'm sure if a serious weather storm was coming to our area, we'd probably hear about it before it actually happened.
I know Verizon and the NWS are just trying to help us out with weather alerts since we don't watch the weather channel 24/7 but no more early morning texts.
On the upside, the only good thing that is coming from this so-called "blizzard" is more snow for Mt. Bachelor. The mountain got 8 new inches in the last 24 hours.

This is what was supposed to happen early this morning...maybe they had the wrong town
