Cascadia week on the BENT Blog

This week, the Tin Pan Theater will be hosting three showings of the locally made film, Occupied Cascadia , by Devin Hess, Mel Sweet and Casey Bryan Corcoran.

• Alexander Baretich of Portland designed the Doug Flag in 1994, and created the Black Jack (above) after Casey Corcoran suggested it to him in 2011.

Filmmaker Casey Corcoran defines Cascadia:
“Cascadia is the name of the bioregion commonly referred to as the Pacific North West defined as all of the watersheds west of the Rocky Mountains that flow out through the coastal rainforest. The SE Alaskan pan handle, all the way down to Cape Mendocino.
Recently, various separatist, secessionist autonomist ideas of alternative economies are gravitating toward the idea of bioregional Cascadia as the foundation for a sustainable ecological economy, a place based culture, and renaissance revival and a big indigenous resurgence."

You can watch Occupied Cascadia online for free, but the filmmakers suggest coming to the showing on Sunday night and sticking around for the post-film Q and A and discussion. This is the real point of the film, to get a discussion started about pressing environmental issues in our bioregion. See the trailer for the film below.
