Those Little Shrimps in the Bend La Pine School District

Posted By on Tue, Apr 2, 2013 at 4:21 PM

Bend-LaPine Schools has jumped on the local bandwagon, claiming to provide 40 percent of its food from Oregon-sourced ingredients.

Latest item on the menu? Seafood from Oregon waters.

The pilot program is called Boat to School and provides Central Oregon kids with a taste of the sea in the High Desert, according to the">Oregon Boat to School pilot program website.

Oregon Pacific Pink shrimp, rockfish, and sole were the district's first purchases through a provider called Bornstein's seafood.

Every one of the district's 27 schools can now boast serving some of the freshest and best seafood in the country to our kids.

So far these kids have been treated to shrimp salad, shrimp sushi and shrimp fettuccine.

We should all be so lucky.
