The NYT went all out with the interactive bits peppered throughout the online feature. As readers scroll down through the narrative they're treated to dynamic images of the mountain—including moving lines depicting each skier's path—weather patterns, slideshows and short interviews with those involved. It's an impressive display.
It should be noted, however, that last year's winning feature was a brilliant, but decidedly low-tech piece that came from fellow NW alt weekly, The Stranger. Eli Sanders won for his gripping account of woman who survived a violent attack inside her home. You can read it here.
