Chris Phipps, a ridiculously fit 43-year-old Bay Area racer who we highlighted in last week's issue, won today's road race, which ended at Mt. Bachelor. The race is part of the five-day USA Cycling Masters Road National Championships.

Reports from the finish line are scary. It sounds like today's storm, and resulting hail, made for painful conditions. One observer noted that racers had welts on their backs from the massive hailstones. Other racers reportedly took cover under guard rails, searching for shelter from the ping pong ball-size hail.

Yesterday, Roger Worthington of Worthy Brewing, and his riding partner Michael Johnson, won the 90+ age group tandem time trial. A hearty congratulations to all Bend podium finishers. Here are available results thus far. The Redmond crits are up next, starting tomorrow.
