Friday Mixtape!

Tomorrow's National Record Store Day can be both fantastic and—unfortunately—frustrating. Why? Well, with limited releases and long lines of audiophiles clamoring for a chance to snag something special, getting out the door with the vinyl title someone came for can be entirely difficult.

Luckily, that doesn’t mean the music from Record Store Day albums isn’t offered elsewhere. Many are actually re-releases of old material and some are just early releases of records that will come out later in the year; meaning that even if quality vinyl audio isn’t available, songs are still accessible on sites like Spotify.

This Friday Mixtape includes tracks from 17 different 2014 Record Store Day releases. Old school gangsta rap from Ice-T and throwback country from The Allman Brothers punctuate a playlist filled with today’s hottest indie bands—see “Holding on For Life” by Broken Bells and “Demon Dance” by Surfer Blood—as well as oldies-but-goodies by R&B crooner Sam Cooke and rock legend Frank Zappa.

The highlight here is “Pow Pow” by LCD Soundsystem and the five-album collection of the band’s farewell concert in 2010 at Madison Square Garden that it represents. The demand for this offering will be high.
