Coverage for Central Oregon, by Central Oregonians.
100% Local. No Paywalls.

Every day, the Source publishes a mix of locally reported stories on our website, keeping you up to date on developments in news, food, music and the arts. We’re committed to covering this city where we live, this city that we love, and we hear regularly from readers who appreciate our ability to put breaking news in context.

The Source has been a free publication for its 22 years. It has been free as a print version and continued that way when we began to publish online, on social media and through our newsletters.

But, as most of our readers know, times are different for local journalism. Tech giants are hoovering up small businesses and small-business advertising—which has been the staple for locally owned media. Without these resources, journalism struggles to bring coverage of community news, arts and entertainment that social media cannot deliver.

Jared Eats Bite of Bend: A Source Staffer and his Food

Posted By on Wed, Jul 2, 2014 at 1:26 PM

Saturday June 28 was a day of celebration for Source staffer and writer, Jared Rasic. He walked the streets of downtown with a group of friends and fellow employees as "the smell of sweet, hot meat molested us at every turn" (read Jared's full article on Bite of Bend here).

While the print issue is filled with beautiful pictures of the food (courtesy of Megan McGuinness), we wanted to be sure online Source readers really got a feel for the day, from Jared's perspective. Below is a photo essay of everything Jared ate (and drank) during the Bite of Bend festival.

Taco, Shred Town Food Cart

Columbia River salmon roll, Ju:no Sushi
Neau Yang, Wild Rose Northern Thai
Pad Thai and chicken satay, Taste of Thailand
Drink break! Screwdriver, The D&D
Mini dogs! Family Corn Dogs
POG snow cone, Da Kine Grindz
