Horizon Airlines Upgrades Fleet

Beginning in the spring of 2017, Portland-based Horizon Airlines will grow its fleet by purchasing 30 new Embraer E175 jets in a $2.8 billion dollar transaction.  It is the largest order since Horizon was founded in 1981.  The jets will supplement the carrier's fleet of Bombardier Q400 turboprops which serve the Redmond Airport. Horizon will fly these jets exclusively for Alaska Airlines on select longer routes originating in the Pacific Northwest.  The purchase will allow the airline to fly to destinations that are too distant for the turboprop, but currently don't have enough customer demand to fill a mainline, or larger jet.  The E175 seats 76 passengers, including 12 seats in first class, 16 in premium class and 48 in the main cabin. Onboard amenities include Wi-Fi access and entertainment.
