Coverage for Central Oregon, by Central Oregonians.
100% Local. No Paywalls.

Every day, the Source publishes a mix of locally reported stories on our website, keeping you up to date on developments in news, food, music and the arts. We’re committed to covering this city where we live, this city that we love, and we hear regularly from readers who appreciate our ability to put breaking news in context.

The Source has been a free publication for its 22 years. It has been free as a print version and continued that way when we began to publish online, on social media and through our newsletters.

But, as most of our readers know, times are different for local journalism. Tech giants are hoovering up small businesses and small-business advertising—which has been the staple for locally owned media. Without these resources, journalism struggles to bring coverage of community news, arts and entertainment that social media cannot deliver.

KPOV 88.9 FM Recieves Grant from MRG Foundation

Posted By on Thu, Jun 30, 2016 at 9:36 AM

Central Oregon community radio station, KPOV High Desert Community Radio, 88.9 FM, was awarded an important grant from MRG Foundation in June 2016.

“KPOV expresses our deep gratitude to MRG Foundation for their generous support of KPOV in 2016,” says Jill Mahler, KPOV Station Manager. “MRG Foundation is a crucial and generous supporter of cutting edge, grassroots social justice organizations in Oregon and KPOV is honored by MRG’s confidence in our work.”

KPOV was funded by MRG Foundation to support KPOV’s role as a resource for social justice and community organizing in Central Oregon. This grant will enable KPOV to expand its partnerships with local organizations, including making the public aware of local organizations’ work through on-air interviews, KPOV’s community calendar, and public service announcements. The new funding will also aid KPOV in expanding its organization to include more representation from and service to communities of color and the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning community in Central Oregon.

“MRG Foundation also has a long history of supporting other social justice organizations in Central Oregon, including Jobs with Justice Central Oregon, the Human Dignity Coalition and 350 Deschutes,” noted Mahler. “MRG has advanced the cause of social justice in Central Oregon immeasurably by funding and providing guidance and other assistance to these important local organizations.”

KPOV is a listener-supported, volunteer-powered, nonprofit community radio station that broadcasts at 88.9 FM and live on the web at kpov.org. High Desert Community Radio offers locally-produced programs not heard on any other radio stations in the area, including civic affairs, election coverage, and the most diverse music programming in Central Oregon. KPOV also features several nationally syndicated programs, such as Democracy Now!, that no other station broadcasts in our area.

KPOV is located at 501 NW Bond Street, Bend, OR 97703. Contact KPOV by calling 541-322-0863 or visiting the website at kpov.org.
