Newly Married Sisters Woman Killed, Husband Critically Injured in Roseburg Rollover

A single vehicle rollover reportedly caused by a tire blowing out, fatally injured a newly married, Sister's woman and her husband on Sunday on the I-5 just north of Roseburg. Oregon State Police (OSP) are continuing to investigate Sunday evening's fatal crash which occurred at milepost 133 at about 5pm.

A 2002 Chevy van, operated by Taylor Nieri, 22, was southbound when a tire blew out causing Nieri to lose control. The Chevy van went off the roadway and onto the shoulder where it rolled multiple times causing it to come to an uncontrolled rest on its top, according to OSP. During the rollover, Nieri's husband, James Thorpe, 35, originally from Australia was ejected. Thorpe was transported by ground ambulance to Mercy Medical Center and was later taken by air ambulance to Sacred Heart at Riverbend for critical injuries.

According to her Facebook page, Nieri had worked at Angeline's Bakery in Sisters, and married Thorpe in April of 2017. She was wearing her safety belt during the crash while Thorpe was not wearing safety restraints.

OSP is continuing the investigation into the crash. and are assisted by Sutherlin Police Department, Douglas County Fire District 2, Roseburg Towing, and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
