Free Music Options This Weekend — Charlie Parr, Unlikely Saints

In case you missed it in Our Picks this week, I totally fangirl-ed out about The Avett Brothers. The folk-rock band behind the ever-so popular “I and Love and You”, “Ain’t No Man” and “True Sadness,” bring their traveling show to the Amphitheater tonight. There are no shows at Edgefield this year, so you’ve better snag those tickets! If you need me, I’ll be as close as I possibly can be for my fourth time seeing them live.

Meanwhile, if you’re looking to check out some free live music this weekend, there are a few options that we recommend.

On Saturday, the Cascade Cycling Classic’s Downtown Twilight Criterium returns for one of the most exciting nights of the year. After the men’s and women’s crits, head through the breezeway to Crow’s Feet Commons to check out the blues rock of Charlie Parr. The accomplished singer/songwriter from Duluth, Minnesota, maintains a simple lifestyle similar to what he sings about. He travels with his dog and his girlfriend in a 1992 Toyota truck and is driving out here from Minnesota for the show and then — the possibilities are endless.

Parr transports you to simpler times. Enjoy an awesome sunset, great brews and family tunes in the heart of Downtown Bend.

If you happen to be out at Elk Lake this weekend, stay and enjoy live music at Elk Lake Resort. This Saturday features the music of Unlikely Saints. The band plays Americana roots music that blends rock, country, soul and a dash of Appalachian folk music — the perfect soundtrack to an evening by the lake.
