In a surprise social media post, Summit Saloon and Stage, the sports bar turned nightclub in downtown Bend, abruptly shut its doors on Tuesday.

Citing "unsuccessful lease negotiations and economic factors," co-owners Matthew Gordon and John Simac who ran the bar for more than 10 years wrote an emotional Facebook farewell stating, "It is with heavy hearts that we announce our closing effective immediately."

Outpouring of support was immediate with many locals expressing shock and stating they were planning on coming to the bar for lunch that very day. Andrew Newcomb wrote, "John! Thank you for providing an affordable, quality place to grab a meal for 10 years. We are in tears in our house today."

Soaring rental prices and limited availability have led to multiple businesses closing within the last year.
