This is Not A Game...of Thrones.

Posted By on Fri, Jun 24, 2016 at 7:38 PM

Because we know what's really important here in these United States, someone made sure to find out that Brexit wouldn't be affecting our viewership of "Game of Thrones." HBO has issued a statement saying “We do not anticipate that the result of the EU Referendum will have any material effect on HBO producing Game of Thrones.”

Since "Thrones" mostly films in Northern Ireland, which it gets tax incentives from, Northern Ireland Screen also issued a statement saying “This statement is to confirm that Northern Ireland Screen’s production funding comes from the Northern Ireland Executive through Invest NI and does not use monies provided from European funded programmes.”

Now that we have that out of the way and are fully aware of what our priorities are, carry on and panic.

Government Shutdown Day 14: Spotted Frog Meeting Cancelled

Posted By on Tue, Oct 15, 2013 at 11:13 AM

Sorry frog lovers, the government shutdown is causing yet another debacle in Central Oregon: the cancelation of a public informational meeting on the spotted frog scheduled to take place at the La Pine senior center.

Here is a portion of the press release the Source received this morning:

CANCELLED: Oregon Spotted Frog Meeting
A public informational meeting about the Oregon spotted frog, organized by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, scheduled for Wednesday, October 16 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the La Pine Senior Center is cancelled.

The Federal Government is closed as current funding expired on September 30. Due to this event, the Oregon Fish and Wildlife Office and all its field offices (Bend, La Grande, Newport, and Roseburg) are closed to the public. While a lapse in appropriations remains in effect, fish and wildlife management activities and public programs are cancelled.

Additional information is available at DOI.gov/shutdown and OPM.gov.

Sorry little dude, I guess well never know what could have been.

In other government shut down news, this still sucks for everyone.

Noah's Ark: 2012 Version

Posted By on Tue, Nov 27, 2012 at 3:51 PM

There are many religions in the world and many ways to spread the word of god but one man has taken his view on faith to an entirely new level.
Johan Huibers, a rich Dutch businessman has built a full-size replica of Noah’s Ark because of a dream he had about his country flooding. That must’ve been one heck of dream. The ark was constructed to the exact cubit measurement inscribed in the book of Genesis. The project has been in construction since 2008 and opened to the public last summer. Huibers told the AFP, “We wanted to build something that can help explain the Bible in real terms.”
Here’s the Today interview about the ark even Noah himself would’ve been impressed by:

Bent vs. Bent: WTF!!

NBC is ripping us off.

Posted By on Wed, Mar 21, 2012 at 4:51 PM

NBC is stealing out gig...

Note NBC's "Bent" logo, crafted for their ridiculous new show. It's oddly similar to ours (which we quadruple patented years ago):

For comparison, here's our Bent Blog logo (much cooler to tilt your T to the right, and raise a little e):

We've got all of our high-powered lawyers on this. We're suing the shit out of NBC.*

Unbelievable...

Cool video about the barrel-aging  process at Full Sail.

Fire it up, kick back with a beer of choice and count down the days until the Little Woody (Aug. 31-Sep. 1) The country's premier barrel aged beer festival, right here in lil' ol' Bend.

Destiny Brings Tenacious D to Bend This Summer

Absurd rock returns!

Posted By on Tue, Mar 6, 2012 at 9:21 PM

Tenacious DThe booking of Tenacious D at Les Schwab Amphitheater really rounds out the Memorial day weekend. Now we've got The Shins on Friday, May 25; Tenacious D on Saturday, May 26 and Beck on Sunday, May 27.

Tenacious D is back on the road in support of Rize of the Fenix, their first studio album in over six years.

If you're unfamiliar with the theatrics of Jack Black and Kyle Gass, the men who make up the mock-rock band, see below (and the picture at right—they ain't getting any younger, eh?).

Watch out, 'cause they'll "BLOW YOUR MIND!"

Free Cappuccinos at Lone Pine, Right Now!

It's their three-year anniversary. Congrats y'all.

Seriously. To celebrate their three-year anniversary, the kind folks at Lone Pine Coffee Roasters are serving up free cappuccinos all day.

I just had one. It was delicious. And hopefully it'll stop me from becoming the year's first work-related death in Oregon. This story is killing me.

P.S. I had no idea that's how Kristian Foden-Vencil spelled his last name (see above link for relevance). It's a really fun name to say.

We Are the Future

We can plug it anywhere.

Posted By on Thu, Dec 15, 2011 at 12:05 AM

This is how tech we are at the Source, USB ports on our outlets.

Can you believe how ahead of the times we are? Yes, the same folks who employ Scoop Lewis, Ace Reporter.

Actually, our publisher just bought one. But we might move to it, someday. Sure seems handy, eliminating the need for conversion plugs and what not.

Our Own Scoop Lewis is on Facebook!

Our ace reporter got on Facebook.

Readers of our paper know longtime contributor Scoop Lewis, who returned to the paper this year to take over the Upfront page.

What you might not know about Scoop is that he's presently living in our garage (actually, he splits time between the garage and the basement, which he refers to as his "vacation home) and that he has a recent fascination with technology.

Presently the last reporter in the world still using a typewriter, Scoop decided this week that he wants to be on Facebook. So here's a link to his fan page and if you follow him, you'll get all sorts of hilarious and informative updates from Bend's most talented news personality.

Happy 11-11-11 Day

It's November 11, 2011 and some people think this is reason to celebrate.

Posted By on Fri, Nov 11, 2011 at 6:14 PM

No, this day doesn't really mean anything, other than the fact that if you write a check, you'll be making a lot of vertical marks.

But don't say that to fans of annoyingly loud pants, who will be celebrating Corduroy Appreciation Day (the date resembles the design of those pants, I suppose) or these weirdos who were trying to do something weird in the pyramids.

Most importantly, though, some have called this Nigel Tufnel Day, celebrating the famed guitarist for Spinal Tap. And that's why everyone should watch this video.
