Mickey Hart is Coming to Bend and We Want to Give You His New CD

Win a copy of Hart's new album by telling us the best Dead era in terms of their keyboard player. Read on for more info.

Posted By on Fri, Apr 27, 2012 at 6:49 PM

Mickey HartCalling all deadheads!

Mickey Hart, former drummer for the Grateful Dead, is playing at the Tower on May 7 and we have an extra copy of his new CD, Mysterium Tremendum to give away.

Hart's spacey/world-beat jams are easy on the ears and at least one of us here on the Source's editorial staff is psyched for the upcoming show.

So, put down the bong long enough to read how to win a copy of his new album that is sitting on my desk this very minute.

Being Dead fans, we have a favorite Dead-era. To win the CD you have to tell us what were the best years to see the Dead/when were they making the best music.

And! You must do so by referencing said years in terms of their keyboard player (they had a lot of them, most of them are now dead—you didn't want to play the keys for the Dead. It's a cursed position, apparently).

Got it? It's easy. Share our Facebook post and leave your answer as a Facebook comment. There is only one correct answer! (according to us). The first person to answer correctly will be notified via the bookface and can then come down Shakedown Street Bond St. to pick up a shiny new Mickey Hart CD.

You can read our interview with Hart in next week's issue. And if you want tickets to the show, they're available at the Tower's website ($41).

Hot Buttered Rum and Cornmeal: Win two free tickets to Tuesday's show!

We want to give you more free tickets.

Posted By on Tue, Mar 13, 2012 at 12:32 AM

hotbutteredrum.jpg

We just love to give stuff away these days. This time, we've got two tickets for the Hot Buttered Rum and Cornmeal show on March 13 at the Century Center (sponsored by GoodLife Brewing, so get your pre-show pints there, ya hear?).

Don't let all the food/beverage names fool you. This ain't no cooking class. This is good ole fashioned hoedown, with plenty of pickin' and grinnin' and ass shakin.'

Hot Buttered Rum, hailing from the Bay-Area, is well known for its “high altitude bluegrass” sound and has shared a stage with such jam-spreading professionals as Phil Lesh and Bela Fleck. Chicago’s Cornmeal is a nutritious and fat-free bluegrass band that should leave you full and satisfied.

Tickets for this awesome shared-bill show are $15, so this giveaway is no joke, man.

Here's what to do to win: "like" us on the Facebook, encourage others to do the same, and leave us a comment. That's it.

Check out the video below for more from HBR:

Larry and His Flask Meet Dia de los Muertos

It was scary good at the Poet House Friday night.

Posted By on Tue, Nov 1, 2011 at 12:07 AM

Local folk-punk heroes Larry and His Flask played a gig to a Poet House flush with Halloween spirit on Friday.

flaskpoetscreen.jpg

It was too raucous to get a focused shot of the band. Sorry.

The celebration was rowdy, packing the cramped upstairs quarters of the Poet House and visibly flexing the floors of the building during some of the more dance-heavy numbers. Totally punk rock, totally terrifying.

Win Tickets to Teton Gravity Research's Film at the Tower

Win a pair of free tickets to see Teton Gravity Research's new ski flick.

Posted By on Tue, Oct 4, 2011 at 6:13 PM

It snowed on Mt. Bachelor last night. Not a storm or even a real snowfall. A dusting, really.

But that sure as hell knocked those 80- and 90-degree days we had just two weeks ago from my memory and made me realize that it's time to start talking about skiing.

And you get your mind in that same mode by hitting up tomorrow's screening of Teton Gravity Research's new film One For the Road at the Tower Theatre. And we're giving out some free tickets. Because we like you guys. Seriously, we do.

All you have to do is go to our Facebook page, make sure you like us and then leave a comment. You'll be entered to win. Well notify winners tomorrow at noon via direct Facebook message. Please don't enter if you don't plan on checking your Facebook inbox tomorrow.

Take a look at the trailer. Looks pretty rad.
