You Must Choose...Wisely

Posted By on Tue, May 3, 2016 at 6:47 PM

Just so no one wastes their time, Daily Dot has made a list of the top 25 worst movies on Netflix. Most of the movies on the list are definitely terrible and pretty easy targets, but I'll stand up for "Bed of Roses," "To the Wonder," and "Elizabethtown." They aren't the greatest movies, but there are much deeper rabbit holes to go down on that website.

Snoop Dogg Wrestles With... People.

Posted By on Tue, Mar 29, 2016 at 12:52 PM

maxresdefault.jpg

Snoop Dogg is going to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. For those who have moved past that part of their lives, WWE stands for World Wrestling Entertainment. One might assume this is a mistake, but Snoop (AKA Calvin Broadus Jr.) actually rolls deep in the pro wrestling crowd. He was the Master of Ceremonies for Wrestlemania XXIV and last year he fought beside Hulk Hogan because that's what gangster rappers do. We here at The Source congratulate you Mr. D-O-Double G. Have a suplex on us.

All The Batmans, Please!

Hey! It's Sunday. A new work week looms on the horizon and maybe you're enjoying the last few hours of your well-deserved weekend. Or maybe you're like me and "weekend" doesn't really mean anything anymore. Either way, we at The Source love you and appreciate you, so here is a picture of all the Batmans to enjoy before the drudgery begins again tomorrow.

From left to right: Ben Affleck, Christian Bale, Michael Keaton, Adam West, George Clooney and Val Kilmer.

Hamilton Might Be Coming To a City Near-ish You!!

Posted By on Tue, Mar 15, 2016 at 2:56 PM

If you want to check out Hamilton on Broadway, it is going to take a while. Tickets are sold out through June or July (depending on who you ask), and the touring company doesn't start for another six months. In Chicago. Basically, there will be an open-ended run beginning in the fall in the Windy City, followed by a 21-week run in the Orpheum in San Francisco. There will be other locations across other dates, but this is what we get for now.

22 Men In Black

Posted By on Sun, Mar 6, 2016 at 5:27 PM

Never have I seen two franchises team-up to create one super sized franchise hybrid baby, but here we are. The director of the last "Muppets" movie teams up with Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill to bring us "21 Jump Street" meets "Men In Black." Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones won't be reprising their roles, but just the idea of Hill and Tatum's sublimely stupid cops taking on aliens sounds like an inspired and delightful idea. What say you??

OSCAR 2016 Predictions

Posted By on Sun, Feb 28, 2016 at 12:11 PM

url.png
Well, it's not Oscar night unless we make some Oscar predictions, so here are a few of mine before the big night happens. These aren't necessarily all the things I want to win, as much as they are the things that will probably win, but I've never been that great predicting the Oscars anyway.

BEST PICTURE: "Spotlight"

BEST ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE: Leonardo DiCaprio- "The Revenant"

ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE: Brie Larson- "Room"

ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE: Sylvester Stallone- "Creed"

ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE: Alicia Vikander- "The Danish Girl"

ANIMATED FEATURE FILM: "Inside Out"

CINEMATOGRAPHY: Emmanuel Lubezki- "The Revenant"

COSTUME DESIGN: Jenny Beavan- "Mad Max- Fury Road"

DIRECTING: George Miller- "Mad Max-Fury Road"  (It will probably be Innaritu for "Revenant, but I'm pulling for Miller.

DOCUMENTARY: "Amy" (although it should be "Cartel Land" or "The Look of Silence")

DOCUMENTARY SHORT SUBJECT: "Body Team 12"

EDITING: Margaret Sixel- "Mad Max- Fury Road"

FOREIGN LANGUAGE FILM: "Son of Saul" (but "Mustang" might sweep in)

MAKEUP AND HAIRSTYLING: "The Revenant"

ORIGINAL SCORE: Ennio Morricone- "The Hateful Eight"

ORIGINAL SONG: "Earned It"- "Fifty Shades of Grey"

PRODUCTION DESIGN: "Mad Max-Fury Road"

SHORT FILM ANIMATED: "Bear Story"

SHORT FILM LIVE ACTION: "Ave Maria"

SOUND EDITING: "Mad Max-Fury Road"

SOUND MIXING: "Mad Max-Fury Road"

VISUAL EFFECTS: "Mad Max- Fury Road"

WRITING (ADAPTED SCREENPLAY): "The Big Short"

WRITING (ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY): "Spotlight" (although it should be "Ex Machina")

Well, there are my predictions. Most will be wrong, since I'm terrible at this, but since I get paid to write about movies I felt an obligation to be a better film writer. Let me know your choices in the comments.

Run Them Blades Fast

Posted By on Thu, Feb 18, 2016 at 2:31 PM

url.jpg
In every lifetime, the older one gets, the more repetition one sees in the world around them. In politics, economics and, of course, sequels to movies that more money can be made off of, we see this trend as age begins to set in. In 2018, we will get a sequel to the 1982 cult classic "Blade Runner." Not that we were asking for it, we will finally get an answer to whether Harrison Ford's Deckard is actually a replicant. Before dismissing this sequel as a cynical cash grab, the talent behind this new film is genuinely exciting: Harrison Ford returns and co-stars with Ryan Gosling, scripting duties are being taken up by Hampton Fancher (who co-wrote the original) and the film is being directed by the downright brilliant Denis Villenueve ("Enemy," "Prisoners" and "Sicario.") This is a pretty dynamic creative team and Villenueve is a visual and tonal master, so count this film geek as being optimistic for this one.

The Roots, Fallon and Adele say "Hello".

Because Jimmy Fallon and The Roots' covers of new songs with children's instruments are always a total blast, The Source wanted to share their newest track: "Hello" by Adele. Enjoy this bit of musical mastery.

Face Kick Your Way To A Full Belly!

The El Rey Network, which was launched and is mostly curated by occasionally good director Robert Rodriguez, is at it again. For the second year in a row, the network will host a Thanksgiving Day Kung-Fu Movie Marathon. This is perfect for those of us with families that have been known to throw verbal punches over stuffing, Bruce Lee and all of his genre counterparts will be there to defuse some of the tension. The "Way of the Turkey" marathon starts on Thanksgiving day and runs for 72-hours, which should be just enough time to shake off those meat sweats and move on with your life. The full list of movies is here. Enjoy.

In the Not Too Distant Future...

Posted By on Tue, Nov 10, 2015 at 1:35 PM

images-1.jpg

There is a chance that we as lucky Earthlings might receive more Mystery Science Theater 3000 from the original human himself, Joel Hodgson. Hodgson launched a kickstarter campaign this morning in attempts to raise $2 million to make three feature length episodes to shop around to networks and streaming services. While some back-from-the-dead revivals are a terrible idea, Hodgson and Co. have stayed pretty funny and relevant over the last few years and this could end up being a fine return to form.  Since they have already made almost a quarter of their goal, I must not be the only person that thinks so.
