High Desert Museum Gets an Upgrade

Posted By on Thu, Dec 6, 2012 at 10:17 AM

If you're looking for some holiday fun for yourself or the entire family, be sure to check out the new addition at the High Desert Museum.
On Nov. 17, they opened the new E.L. Wiegand Pavilion. Cathy Carroll, the museum's communications and promotions manager, expressed that they named the facility after the Reno-based foundation who awarded them the grant.
"A significant grant of $250,000 allowed us to make our performance space much more high-tech, warm and cozy," she said.
The pavilion will have an adjustable window system that can stack together to create a more intimate experience with the outdoors for members and guests.
It will also have new audiovisual, lighting and backstage enhancements for programs.
From Dec. 26 to Jan. 5, the brand-new pavilion will present a new program called Survivor:Animals Adapt. You will experience the tenacious grip of a tree-climbing porcupine, the keen hearing sense from a stunning barn owl and a visit from the fastest animal in the world—a peregrine falcon. Be sure to check out these fascinating adaptations on display later this month.

Out of Town, Microcosmos, and the Lounge Lizard debut on Tsweekly.com

New content debuts on The Source Weekly website this week.

Posted By on Thu, Mar 10, 2011 at 11:36 PM

We'll be the first ones to admit when we're slacking. No Microcosmos online in Beer Town USA? That's our bad and we're going to start making up for it. And we're not stopping with the most fun column to research (when else do you get to drink beer on the job?). Beginning this week all of The Source's original content debuts on the web.

In addition to the long-running Microcosmos column, our newest rundown of Bend's lounge scene hits the paper and the web in the Lounge Lizard. This week, the Lounge Lizard slithered its way down to The Marilyn Room at Kayo's on Third Street. The lounge, which pays tribute to cultural icon Marilyn Monroe, received high marks in our ranking categories: ambiance, drink strength and Rat Pat Rating.

Headed to Eugene or Portland this weekend and looking for something awesome to do? We've got you covered with our weekly Out of Town column. Here's a sneak peek at this week's happenings on the other side of the Cascades:
