Legal weed coming to a dispensary near you October 1

Posted By on Wed, Jul 29, 2015 at 1:35 PM

It's official. Legal weed limbo will end on October 1, when the medical marijuana dispensaries will be permitted to sell some cannabis products. Gov. Kate Brown quietly signed the bill into law on Monday, according to the Oregon Legislative record. Her office has not yet released a statement about the signing.

Currently, it is legal to grow, possess, and use recreational marijuana in Oregon, but non-medical users are not yet able to legally purchase cannabis products. The bill was promoted as a way to curb the black market for marijuana while the Oregon Liquor Control Commission and the Oregon Legislature work out the details of the licensing program. That program is expected to be up and running by fall of 2016.

The new law permits dispensaries to sell up to a quarter ounce of dried leaves and flowers per adult (21 and over) per day, as well as up to four non-flowering plants and cannabis seeds.

Will you be taking advantage of the new legal option come October? Take our poll and sound off in the comments.

Bend Area Man Busted with 107 Pounds of Pot

Brandon James Manger, 23, of the Bend area, was arrested for possession of 107 pounds of pot.

Whoa, that's a lot of pot.

Still, we feel for Brandon James Manger, 23, who was caught with it all in his SUV last night just north of Klamath Falls by Oregon State Police. Manger is from the Bend area, according to OSP.

I mean, maybe he gets really bad headaches and that's his medicine. Definitely looks like he might have a headache.

Expensive medicine, though. Troopers estimate the herb's value at $250,000 minimum.

Weighing Benefits of Medical Marijuana Dispensaries

Oregon Capitol News takes a look at the possibility of medical marijuana dispensaries in Oregon.

Posted By on Thu, Jul 28, 2011 at 4:45 PM

We've done quite a bit of reporting on medical marijuana over the past couple of years and recently ran this story on Bend's marijuana collectives. The issue isn't always easy to understand, given all the gray area that exists in Oregon's medical pot laws.

But Oregon Capitol News came out with this video yesterday that weighs the benefits of a medical marijuana dispensary system in Oregon and is a good starter for those looking to understand this often complex issue.
