Although you might not realize it here in Bend this week with these mid-spring temperatures we've been experiencing, summer is still a ways off. But that didn't keep us from getting all hyped up about the summer music festival circuit this week.

First, we got our hands on the brand new Live From Bonnaroo 2008 DVD (review coming soon in the Source) and jealously watched killer performances by Pearl Jam, Metallica, Tegan and Sara, Broken Social Scene, Galactic and all the other bands we missed by staying in Oregon last summer. Then, today Bonnaroo announced its 2009 lineup which includes none other than seminal jam band Phish, Bruce Springsteen (and his camera-bashing crotch), The Beastie Boys, Wilco, Nine Inch Nails, the Decemberists and many many more.

June is still a good four months away, but this announcement definitely got our live music stoke factor pumping.

But only a few hours after Bonnaroo dished out its lineup, we got a press release from the organizers of the Langerado Music Festival saying that the festival, slated to take place in Miami the first week of March, was cancelled. With a lineup this year featuring Death Cab For Cutie, Snoop Dogg, Ryan Adams, Flogging Molly, Michael Franti & Spearhead and several other high-profile acts, the festival's heads say that "sluggish ticket sales" forced them to pull the plug on Langerado. The festival had become a de facto kick off to the festival season and had become increasingly eclectic in the past few years.

We're just hoping this isn't a sign of things to come for the festival circuit amid the current economic environment.
