Weekend in Music: Swollen Members and Dropkick Murphys

Get your hip-hop and your Celtic punk all in you spot this weekend.

It’s fixing to be a big weekend in music down at the Midtown Music Hall, where Swollen Members, along with a host of other hip-hoppers are playing the Domino Room tonight and Dropkick Murphys bring their Celtic punk rock circus to the Midtown Ballroom come Sunday.

We ran a feature about Swollen Members this week in which we gave some praise for the Canadian group’s latest record, the imposingly titled Armed to the Teeth, and also chatted up Prevail about his act.

Here’s a video of the group’s single, “Warrior.” The show starts at 8pm tonight at the Domino Room.

If you think Sundays are the most boring night of the week, you might be right, at least generally speaking, but this week is an exception with the big Dropkick Murphys show at the Midtown Ballroom. The Celtic punks have a huge following on the East Coast, but have made major inroads out here on the left side of the country as well.

There’s a lineup of punk and kind punk acts, including Bend’s own Larry and His Flask, opening the show, so get there early and make a night of it.

Here’s the video for Dropkick’s mega hit “Shipping up to Boston” which all fans, even the less-hardcore ones, should have seen by now.
