Video and Pictures from Friday's Cross Nat's Blow Out Bash at Midtown

Posted By on Mon, Dec 14, 2009 at 10:52 PM

I’d been looking forward to seeing The Sprockettes, the all-girl mini bike dance troupe from Portland, since I found out they were booked for this show back in October. Sadly they bailed, afraid that freezing rain on the overpass would keep them stuck in Bend. I almost bailed on the Blow Out Bash after hearing that, but decided to stick around anyway. It was totally worth it.

Quite a few cyclocross riders and Bendites came out for the show at Midtown, the temps finally rising above “death” so that people could actually walk around and smoke outside without immediately freezing in place. Maybe it was the balmy 30-degree night or the energy from Cross Nat’s, but people were ready to party.

First up was The Dirty Words, who brought their soulful brand of rock to the crowd. MOsley WOtta was up next, and opened with some Neil Young, backed by The Dirty Words. Video here:

MOWO always brings it, and he definitely made some new fans. One cyclocross rider from State College, PA bought two CD’s and is determined to get MOWO to the east coast.  After a couple tracks, MOWO decided to rock the bike fashion:

Most of the crowd had changed from the spandex suits to their street clothes, but I found these guys, who were awesome:

Also, USA Cycling gave out a bunch of swag from local shops and USA Cycling. Lots of t-shirts, gift certificates and the like were thrown out. They also gave away a bike – to this girl:

She was the only kid there, but hey, she pulled the right raffle ticket. I’ve never someone so excited. Her feet didn’t quite reach the pedals, but she did not care. Cyclocross has another recruit. Look for this one at the Nat’s in ten years.
