Your support for independent local news is important.

The Source Weekly has been Central Oregon’s locally owned news outlet for over 23 years. We have always been the definition of "support local." Our success in navigating this new world is tied to the success we experience in pulling together for the common good.

Quality local journalism takes a group of dedicated reporters passionate about democracy and open government. This story is the result of our hard work, and in normal times, the result of the support of the advertisers in Central Oregon. In the age of COVID-19, however, that support has taken a hit—but that’s where you come in.

Head for the Hills tonight at McMenamins for FREE!

Posted By on Wed, Jan 27, 2010 at 11:09 PM

Every time I hear Fort Collins, Colorado-based bluegrass band Head for the Hills, who are playing tonight for free at McMenamin's Old St. Francis School, is coming to town I kinda get creeped out. No, not because of them at all, I'm not afraid of beards and bluegrass (I actually have a thing for guys with beards as it may be.) The silly reason is because their name sounds strikingly similar to that scary movie The Hills Have Eyes. The two have nothing in common except the words "hills", I am aware of this. It's just subconscious, I guess.

No need to fear though, when the Colorado quartet hits the stage at McMenamins tonight any nonsensical visions of bad horror movies will escape your mind and be replaced with cool exultation. We've been lucky enough to have Head for the Hills grace us with their presence several times in the last year, we're even done a feature. The show's not always free though, so take this opportunity to get down to some acoustic bluegrass.

McMenamins Old St. Francis School

7pm. All ages, free.

Who is this Anne Pick girl? Where's Mike Bookey? These are questions that you may be asking yourself and the answer is simple. I am jumping on the Blender Blog team along with Mike to keep you up to date on all of the musical and non-musical goings on in Central Oregon. I prefer my music electronic, though I do enjoy a good acoustic band as well. Locally I dig Eric Tollefson, Empty Space Orchestra and The Autonomics. Nationally, I like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Killers, The Bravery, and I have a long background of No Doubt affection.
