Rally to Restore Sanity Music Lineup Leaked: The Roots, Sheryl Crow, Jeff Tweedy, Mavis Staples

The music lineup for the Rally to Restore Sanity has been leaked.

Posted By on Thu, Oct 28, 2010 at 11:06 PM

A lthough plenty of enthusiasm about Comedy Central's Rally to Restore Sanity (Saturday on the National Mall) has built up since the event's announcement, what exactly this rally entails has been quite vague, with organizers keeping the details and guest appearances largely a secret. How exactly does one restore sanity, anyway?

Well, the Christian Science Monitor got a hold of the National Park Service and had them read off the agenda that's listed on the event permit.

From that, we now know that The Roots, music's hip-hop band of record as well as Jimmy Fallon's nightly accompaniment, are scheduled to kick off the rally at noon (EDT).

After appearances by comedians and the introduction of Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, Wilco's Jeff Tweedy and R&B legend Mavis Staples play a ten-minute set. Later in the show, there's music from Sheryl Crow, in addition to several comedic performances and mystery performances. The permit lists an appearance by Sam Waterston, who will be in Bend for The Nature of Words event next weekend.

Obviously, all this could change, but the CSM's piece at least gives us an idea of what will happen at the much-publicized event.

You can watch all of this on Comedy Central on delay at noon Pacific time, or you can get up early and stream it live on your computer machine.

As I wrote about earlier this week, there will be a Rally to Restore Sanity here in Bend at 4pm at Mirror Pond Plaza.
