PUSH Skatedeck Art Show Tonight to Benefit Division Street Skatepark

The PUSH skatedeck art show and auction is tonight in Bend.

Posted By on Fri, Feb 25, 2011 at 7:23 PM

Skateboards are rad. Local, regional and national artists are rad. Take those things and combine them and you have something so rad, it must been seen to be believed. Or something like that.

The PUSH Skatedeck Art Show and Auction is tonight at the old Boomtown location (910 NW Harriman St.) and will have skatedecks up for auction that were painted by more than 50 different artists. The auction is a benefit for the Division Street Skatepark Project, the continued effort to build a high-end skatepark beneath the overpass on Division Street.

Included in that list are some familiar names from Bend like Dana MacKenzie, Adam Haynes and Jesse Lockwood (both MacKenzie and Lockwood have illustrated covers for the Source).

The show runs from 6pm-10pm and includes beverages from Deschutes Brewery and food from Typhoon, Parrilla and Whole Foods.

Hand Drawn Wednesday Tonight at Common Table

Posted By on Wed, Feb 2, 2011 at 6:17 PM

Check out Common Table tonight for Hand Drawn Wednesdays, a weekly event in collaboration with CADA/CASA. Hand Drawn Wednesdays invite local artists and us common folk who just like to draw things on paper to paint, draw or sketch for the evening. One piece will be chosen to be auctioned off and the proceeds will go to a local charity.

We hear at last week's event, regular diners joined in the fun. Even if you can barely draw stick figures, it's a great chance to view your local artists in their natural environment.

Hand Drawn Wednesdays start at 5 p.m. at Common Table, 150 NW Oregon Ave.

Artcrank Tonight in Bend

The bicycle poster party comes to Bend.

Posted By on Sat, Dec 11, 2010 at 12:01 AM

You should probably know this: The Cyclocross National Championships are going on all week.

Along with that is an enormous explosion of arts and culture throughout downtown and the Old Mill District going on tonight. It's called Cross Culture and I wrote about it in this week's issue.

One of the main events you should check out tonight is Artcrank, a bicycle-oriented poster party popular in other cities and will showcase some of the most beloved artists in Bend. Artcrank is tonight, beginning at 5pm at the tbd Loft and going until at least 10pm.

I figured that you, like I, might not initially grasp the concept of Artcrank, which is why I've included this video from Artcrank Minneapolis.

Art for India Show Tonight with Empty Space Orchestra, The Autonomics and More

Posted By on Sun, Dec 5, 2010 at 1:30 AM

One of Bend's most interesting art shows of the year, Art for India, is tonight at the Century Center. The event is a fundraiser for Rise Up International and benefits the humanitarian organization's school in India.

In addition to the art, there's a sweet concert to be seen beginning at 8pm and featuring the sounds of Empty Space Orchestra (who will almost certainly play some material off their soon-to-be-released full-length album), The Autonomics (returning to the site of their breakout Bend Roots Performance), California band The Lakes, as well as long-time Bendite Julie Southwell and friends.

If you show up early for the art, the cost is $10 (includes buffet), but if you show up after 8pm for the show, it's only $5. Century Center is located at 70 SW Century Drive, behind the new US Bank.

Here's some video of The Autonomics at Bend Roots.
