About four years ago, owner Jason Gartz drove around Bend looking for a good whiskey bar but came up empty handed. He opened The Stihl so "others wouldn't have to suffer the fate of foregoing a good Old Fashioned again." With over 400 varieties of whiskey to choose from—and excellent food—it's safe to say Gartz succeeded.

East-siders flock to Dave’s for the great cocktails and appetizers. We reviewed Dave’s Manhattan for our Happy Hour Guide: Dave’s B-side is a sweeter, lighter take on the classic drink. The ginger-peach bourbon sets off the vermouth without making the cocktail into a drink-with-your-pinky-out disaster. On the nose, it’s as Manhattan as Times Square; the intoxicating smell of the bourbon beckons you to dive in.

If you want tequila, they’ve got it! Sorry to bite on the AC/DC lyric, but seriously, if you want more options for a Margarita—or just straight shots—Los Agaves is the place to go in Sisters. Maybe tequila with a beer back? No problemo, you can order the Coronarita, the house Margarita with a Corona overturned into the glass. Or go for the La Patrona, Patron silver, freshly squeezed lime and citrus soda. Refrescante!

This narrow, double-story bar will have you feeling like you're on the VIP guest list. The comfy couches and chairs suck you in as you sip on the Prohibition Intoxicants, or order off the Local Favorites menu. Grill Pull up a seat at the bar or relax at one of the small couches and enjoy a cocktail. The well-trained staff can pour you a Manhattan—see our review in the Winter Happy Hour Guide—or order off the menu. The Raspberry Cosmo is as refreshing as a dip in the Deschutes.

Just sitting around the bar at Washington is worth the drive up the hill. And, you can order a Duck Fat Sazerac—seriously, who doesn’t want duck-fat infused bourbon, Absinthe and bitters shaken with a bit of lemon? If this doesn’t do it for you, there’s always the seasonal craft menu. Either way, you’ll be stoked.

Maybe the best view of any bar in Bend. Sip off the lengthy cocktail menu and just stare at Mt. Bachelor, or pick a Sister to gaze at. And, if you’re really lucky, you can listen to a concert at the nearby Les Schwab Amphitheater while the bar staff refills your Level 2, or Lavender Love. We could go on and on...
