Re: “Sharpen Your Saw! It's Christmas Tree Huntin' Time

Great idea if you think you're the only one on the planet. This practice was fine in 1960 when there were 10,000+/- people in Bend. Now you're encouraging the masses to go slaughter some of the best young trees we have coming back in the forest? Please stop it. Take a trip to a Christmas tree farm if you want a nice fresh tree. Take care of our forest, don't chop it down. Merry Christmas!

Re: “Big Changes for Well-Traveled Trails

All those soldiers died for nothing I guess. Less and less freedom, more and more regulations. This government needs a wake up call from the people.

Hey Out There -- They don't make it easy, but here's a brochure explaining the process:…

And here's a page with more information about current objections for the Deschutes National Forest, with some other links in the sidebar that might be helpful.…

Re: “Big Changes for Well-Traveled Trails

What should we expect after years of promoting our area as a recreational hub? After inviting so many elites to move here with much more free time and toys than the average person to impact our most wild places? After attracting so many ego-maniacs who only measure their self-worth by their social media likes? I haven't been able to enjoy the listed trailheads for the past decade or two anyway, so I for one say hooray, it's about time. Maybe a permitting process for moving here would be another step in the right direction.

I cant wait to pay to take my grandkids to The Tree Zoo someday.

Thats a pine, when I was a kid they grew wild and free.

Re: “Big Changes for Well-Traveled Trails

Means more planning ahead I guess. I just wonder how they will enforce! Also, the forestry websites are really confusing to navigate and find information on a single trail head, endpoint, or trail. It's going to be hard for someone not really familiar to tell if they need to purchase a permit or not.

Re: “What's Next for the Council?

Apparently everyone forgot 2012 when Sally Russel ran on a position that got her elected to the city counsel then after being elected did a 180 deg turn on her position and betrayed the people who believed she would do what she said she would do to get elected. Talk is one thing actions are another.

Re: “Riverbend Brewing Closing its Brewpub

It clearly says the owners wife has had some serious health issues of late, including multiple back surgeries.

Re: “Riverbend Brewing Closing its Brewpub

It's closing for health reasons but the article doesn't say one word about it. We have a right to know about health.

Re: “McLeod-Skinner's Feat in Deschutes County

I find it interesting that neither the Bulletin nor KTVZ have had stories that Walden lost Deschutes County and his home county of Hood River as well. Seems very noteworthy to me.

Re: “What's Next for the Council?

Agreed on that last point, Michael. Contrary to the story that many people like to perpetuate, Bend does have a significant population of people of color, and it's growing all the time.

Re: “What's Next for the Council?

Special interests and Big Money were repudiated when Bend voters rejected Davis and McCormick--who were bankrolled by the Chamber of Commerce, COBA, and COAR with a combined total over $140,000. These special interests ran two people who have never been involved in this city on any level beyond whining in a failed effort to buy City Council seats. There are qualified people of color in Bend who could serve on the City Council. Hopefully they will apply. It would be great to see more than white faces on the Bend City Council. --Michael Funke
