Re: “Concerned Parents Press On Against Verizon Tower

"Dr. Ganglia" (which is in quotes because I can find no record of any doctor by that name) created their account on November 18, 2019, just to comment on this article. Do I smell a Verizon shill?

Re: “Concerned Parents Press On Against Verizon Tower

Those are some awfully misleading statements, "Dr. Ganglia", if you are a real doctor. These concerns are most definitely of a scientific nature, and it is quite UN-scientific to attempt to shut down rational debate on the matter.

The article states that 110 scientific studies regarding were presented, and eventually narrowed to 36 studies which were sent by certified mail to Verizon's lawyer.

You clearly have not done your research, or you would understand why these parents are rightfully concerned.

Re: “Concerned Parents Press On Against Verizon Tower

The unscientific/conspiracy theorist mindset is getting out of control. Now the Source Weekly, under this author Laurel Brauns, is presenting/defending this point of view. These "concerned parents" are the same overly emotional, insensible people who believe the Earth is flat, vaccines cause autism, and now that cell phone towers cause cancer.

The American Cancer Society, along with a plethora of scientific papers, have demonstrated the safety of cell towers: (https://www.cancer.org/cancer/cancer-causes/radiation-exposure/cellular-phone-towers.html). As a person who earned a degree in physics, I can say that the Sun's UV light does far more skin damage than cell towers could ever possibly inflict. This article does not present the scientific voice on the issue; it presents the view point of scientifically uneducated soccer moms and their irrational paranoia regarding cell phone towers.

Would these parents ever dare tell a surgeon how to perform heart surgery? No, they would immediately understand their ignorance regarding open-heart surgery. Yet, when it comes to electromagnetic physics, biological physics, and electrical engineering, these "concerned parents" somehow feel justified to voice their uneducated opinion on the issue. The Source, this author, Bend, and the U.S. for that matter, all need to carefully analyse whether they support objective, scientific information or emotional, lazy, and insensible frames of mind.

Re: “Concerned Parents Press On Against Verizon Tower

I certainly understand the parents concerns about the cell tower but I think they would be the first to complain that during an emergency they won't be able to contact school officials! I think we all know what emergencies we are talking about in todays terms. As far as the physical harm that cell towers and cell phones present maybe they should not have cell phone "period"! And hopefully not their children having cell phones. Unfortunately, we can't have it both ways!

Re: “A Climate Action Plan Moves Forward

If Bend wants "clean power", it should support nuclear energy. The false alarmist fears about natural gas and oil being 'dirty' energy is a farce. Solar and wind will NOT become major suppliers of energy, because of the real science involved. They simply are NOT capable of 24/7 full power operation. Also, the lie about CO2 remaining in the atmosphere for several hundred years is outrageous. Of 37 major studies, of residence time, the UNIPCC picks the only one with more than 25 years. The average of the other 36 studies indicate under 10 years.
This is simply the largest scientific fraud ever. CO2 does NOT control climate. During an extended ice age 440 million years ago, the CO2 levels were 11-12 times higher than now, and when the Earth entered the very last ice age, the temperatures plummeted, but the CO2 levels remained at their highest levels for several thousand years.
These two simple facts prove that CO2 is NOT that giant, magical global temperature control knob the 'chicken little alarmists' want us sheeple to believe and buy into, so they can control and tax every aspect of our lives.

Re: “A Climate Action Plan Moves Forward

Great efforts. And 300 years down the road the world will thank us. Yet the reality is that climate reform isn’t the fastest way to results. Atmospheric CO2 never comes down by working on emissions and the IPCC knows this. The minimum residence time is at least over 300 years now. This means we have to wait more than 300 years for a change in emissions to take effect. Planting native trees and shrubs starts consuming CO2 within 6 months. We can easily plant 100 billion trees in the USA. Oregon needs to set aside state land so families can plant 2 trees per person per year. In ten years we will increase consumption of CO2 by 10 billion tons per year. Seems a little easier than creating a new city. But then again, lots of financial interests are banking on reform.

We must change our behavior. We must change our policies.

It is a very heartening article to read during these less-than heartening times.

Re: “A Climate Action Plan Moves Forward

I hope the council steps up and approves the plan. We need to show leadership and take responsibility for our community, especially when we can't count on that coming from elsewhere.

Re: “A Push for a Warming Shelter in Bend

Thanks everybody, for your excellent comments and ideas.

I am so sorry I have offended members of our generous and caring faith community. They do essential and important work in our community.

Laurel has written such a well researched and informative article. However, as is almost always the case with interviews for the media, we spoke for almost half an hour and only a few sentences were printed. She just doesn't have space for everything on such a complicated topic.

I absolutely did speak to her about the problem that so many of our churches are booked, hosting programs like Alcoholics Anonymous, often in the evenings. These important programs help keep people from becoming homeless in the first place.

Members of our wonderful faith community host the community kitchen, and of course, help fund our homeless shelters. Many congregations donate food and clothing. Faith communities host interesting speakers, movies and too many other activities to list.

I never meant to dismiss all of these contributions to the community we all love and to the people we are all trying to help.

Thank you again and I am sorry I came off as so oblivious to the excellent work being done by our generous faith community.

There are no humans involved in cattle mutilations.

Re: “A Push for a Warming Shelter in Bend

It may have already been done, but approach the owners of the shopping center that housed the former Shopco; perhaps they or WinnCo, who just signed a long term tenant lease, would be willing to house folks as needed this winter, Theres plenty of parking, multiple toilets, its non-residential and easy to get to. Id be greatly impressed by that kind of good corporate citizenship and Ill bet other future WinnCo customers from all over Central Oregon would be, too.

Re: “Cattle Mutilations and a Satanic Cult?

Yes. It's a Satanic cult. But that cult who did this is made up entirely of satan worshipping fallen angels. The idea is to scare the pants out of humans and invoke terror within them at the mystery of what or who is doing this. They get off on causing fear and terror in humans. In addition, that way, humans will run to the coming antichrist for protection from whoever or whatever is doing this.

Re: “A Push for a Warming Shelter in Bend

Thank you for this article. We need to care NOW about people in this horrible situation. Probably faith services are offended that their current efforts were not duly recognized. Point taken. But pulling back and saying we need to study the causes and quit waving our arms totally misses the point. People ARE doing just that. Do you really think we don't know that? But the problem is NOW. Get out there and wave your arms!

Re: “A Push for a Warming Shelter in Bend

"We care more about our pets than we do our homeless people."
Our pets willingly seek shelter and care and they're easy (but expensive) to treat. At some point our caring communities and our city council need to come to grips with the issues of human personal freedom, mandatory mental health and addiction treatment and public sanitation if the city council wants to do something more than arm-waving. Don't point fingers at our faith communities. Housing is a symptom, not the cure.
