Re: “You Can't Handle the Truth

Many thanks to 'The Source Weekly' for this kind review. Love this city: the mountains, the beer, the food ... and its warm localitarian people!!! After 23 years in the sin-city (Washington DC), I found my 'paradise':-)

Re: “Local Paintings Censored

So those three words were offensive on Bullwinkel's art, but weren't they even more offensive when uttered publicly by the person who sits in the Oval Office?

If the Rhinestone Ranch wants to be an actual children's activity center then it really should have a permit and be open to inspection for safety.

Re: “Two of Bend's Most Gruesome Unsolved Crimes: Beware crazies in the wilderness

I just moved to Bend and have to say the hostility towards outsiders is a very real thing. On one hand I understand it because I work at Red Robin and we get a lot of elitists who are up from California/staying at Sunriver or another resort and going skiing. When Bend's economy is so tough it's really hard to see your town cater to outsiders so much when you're struggling to pay your bills. On the other hand, I lived in California and had a wonderful experience with the people I met there. It's important not to judge, and unfortunately sometimes the wrong people get swept up in others' assumptions.

Re: “Two of Bend's Most Gruesome Unsolved Crimes: Beware crazies in the wilderness

Lol there are hundreds of unsolved muders all around the country, some of which are much more brutal. Anyway, everybody in Bend hates visitors. Maybe that's just what happened in this case?

Re: “Gold Fever: Jimmy Dorsey on his wild ride with the unlikely reality hit Gold Rush: Alaska

I hope its parker and his grandpa that hits the mother load. They are the only ones who truly have a good heart and deserve it. Todd is an arrogaunt bully and Fred well so many bad things to say about him no sense everyone see's it. Karma gets him all the time. :D Parker and his grandpa are the only reason we watch. They could do away with Todd and Fred all together. People like kindness we deal with enough jerks like todd and fred everyday we dont want to see them on tv. Best of wishes parker. Dont let men like fred bring you down. And fred and Todd Karma is watching ......

Re: “Local Paintings Censored

The people who complained and forced the censorship of art are cowards hiding behind the cloak of secrecy. They need to demonstrate some courage and go public or they need to be exposed. I for one will boycott Franklin Crossing eateries and let them know why. The idea tshat children would be exposed to these words is ludicrous. Thanks to the amoral miscreant in the White House they have already been exposed to this and much more significant profanity--such as kidnapping of refugee children. Expose the cowardly censors! Tell us who they are. --Michael Funke

Re: “Closed Book

It is a nationally registered historic building which restricts changing the outside appearance. Two people from the city came by to see what could be done and the only option would have been for them to deed us eight inches of the public sidewalk on Bond Street- in order to keep grade, the ramp would have gone from the back door to the front of the bookstore. That wouldn't fly with historic preservation and the city didn't seem to keen on deeding us the eight inches. I'm a kind human being and would never take pleasure in denying anyone access. I'm sorry you never got to see inside my bookstore. The people who restored this building did a wonderful job and while historic preservation helped in that regard, it is also fallible in other areas.

Re: “Two of Bend's Most Gruesome Unsolved Crimes: Beware crazies in the wilderness

Many extremely ignorant comments here. I grew up in the bay area until I was 18 and then moved to Bend, been here since 1978/79. After a short stay in the military I came back to Bend and have been here ever since. The crime rates here are extremely low. So low in fact that when someone is killed its the talk of the town for weeks, even month's or years. As Bend grows and people from larger cities come here, the crime rates are increasing respectively, and its not the longtime locals who are committing the bulk of these crimes, its the newbs.
People choosing NY or Chicago over Bend Oregon for "peace of mind" or security reasons are laughable, at best, the sheer thought of it is absurd when one looks at the crime rates of these cities.
Bend Oregon rocks! After being in business here for over 20 years and putting my kid through school, I can safely say that I know and do business with all sorts of people, and most every last one of them are great, caring, friendly and honest human beings. I suggest that most of the commentators here are severely lacking in both the number of people known in and around Bend, and the long term history to be able to comment intelligently. Or... that they are the problem. Some people cannot and will not ever get along, no matter where they go, but especially in a smaller community where you have to actually communicate and see the same people from day to day. Yea, try again on Bend Oregon... An excellent place to live!

Re: “Two of Bend's Most Gruesome Unsolved Crimes: Beware crazies in the wilderness

Damn! Bend is really that bad? California is really that bad? Where tf have i been? Im from Louisiana so we believe in southern hospitality and making everyone feel welcome. You walk out your door onto your porch and you can see everything happening in the neighborhood, talk to your neighborhood folks walking by and all that. I guess im just used to ppl like that. But then after the hurricane i moved to Oregon and quickly found out that Oregonians aren't very friendly ppl and alot of you are very racist, extremely ignorant, and very close minded to anything thats not white. Oregon is aight if you wanna retire and vacay but i plan to move and never return to this state again.

Re: “Two of Bend's Most Gruesome Unsolved Crimes: Beware crazies in the wilderness

Claire, it's very true, I came from California to get away from the jerks of California, I am a veteran Californian and I grew up there when California was just surfers and hot rods. Now it's turned it in to multicultural nightmare, nobody speaks English, everybody shoving their culture down your throat, nobody's American in California, it's disgusting, I hope that the Oregonians don't think that having a lot of culture is a good thing because if they do they are in for the worse surprise of their life , Nothings worse than standing in one place in hearing six or seven languages going off at the same time, rudeness, Entitlement, and just lack of assimilation. California is full of foreigners that I do not ever want to live around anymore, that's why I moved up here to Oregon because people here are real Americans and speak English, waive the American flag, you don't see foreign flags waving everywhere it's absolutely disgusting when you see that. I hope Oregonians can appreciate some of the California's that move here because that is why we are here, we were basically shoved out of our own state by non-assimilating foreigners, and there's millions and millions of them, do not promote them to come here and ruin Bend Oregon, They can visit but do not let them set up business here especially the Vietnamese, they take over like a tidal wave in devour everything in sight, if it's free it's gone, they buy one house and the house next-door in the house after that then the whole families and then all their cousins and then soon you will have 100,000 of them here and it will become their city , and they are the rudest people I've ever lived around, They're like a bunch of ants.

Re: “Gold Fever: Jimmy Dorsey on his wild ride with the unlikely reality hit Gold Rush: Alaska

Dorsey needs to get the hell out of camp. He should really take advantage of all of the free government assistance programs to earn his living because he is worthless in the field. They say he was a successful realtor...I find that hard to believe. My wife and I watch this show for our weekly laugh. I don't know if it is the producers that make everybody look like a jackass or if all 6 of them are real jackass's in real life. Can't wait until next Friday. Somebody will leave Alaska in a bodybag before their season ends. Keep up the FINE work Jimmy...perhaps you can get your nasty beard stuck in the slewer. I really think Jimmy loves to play with Todd's GLORY HOLE behind the scenes. NO GUTS NO GLORY Jimmy big old deushe bag!

Re: “Gold Fever: Jimmy Dorsey on his wild ride with the unlikely reality hit Gold Rush: Alaska

Todd is the laziest fat piece of shit I've ever seen. I have no clue why anyone followed the idiot up there to begin with. All that hard work and he has GAINED WEIGHT UP THERE!!!! That stupid beard must go also. His entire look with the teenage Bernie, brown/black/gray beard, what a dork. Nothing better then when he dragged everyone to South America and destroyed everyone's bank account except his!!!! He still drives an $75000 truck, has a home, eating very well, the others are driving garbage trucks, dump trucks, and working back in the family garden center while he's doing great. Amazing, but they think he's king shit.

Re: “Local Paintings Censored

So it's okay for a President to actually says these vile things, but not for the paintings with the quotes to hang in Franklin Crossing? The person who complained needs to take the stick out of his/her ass, get angry about the inappropriate, hateful man elected (by NOT the majority) and not worry about a few pieces of art.

Re: “Two of Bend's Most Gruesome Unsolved Crimes: Beware crazies in the wilderness

A seemingly ideal Cline Falls with a Police Force that should be brought to justice for incompetence and a community of idiots that did not stand up and demand. I would not even drive through your town. Sleep on, After all they were not your loved ones, They were out of towners, Sleep well with that same man walking through your town unscathed.

Re: “Gold Fever: Jimmy Dorsey on his wild ride with the unlikely reality hit Gold Rush: Alaska

I find it bizarre that people call Todd's harsh statement to Jimmy's son out of line. That child endangered the lives of the campers by leaving food out where there were bears around. The child needed to be scolded by everyone in the camp, given the danger he was putting them under. In such a community safety is paramount and if it takes a village for the child to understand this, so be it. I'd rather see the kid in tears over a reprimand, than see someone injured or killed buy a bear.

Re: “Closed Book

I'd like to stand up for BTC here... I can tell you that the owner of this business is one of the kindest, most inclusive women I have ever met. She constantly went out of her way to make books "accessible" to the community both in and out of her store. If you want to play the disability access game, take it up with the City of Bend and the Bend Historic Society. It took two years to even get a sign with the business name hung out front. Access ramps were a bureaucratic nightmare and the building is legally exempted from providing them because of it's age and historical status. Do not throw blind blame for an issue you clearly haven't researched properly...or at all.
