Hot Buttered Rum is a band that has no problem drawing a crowd in Bend, whether its at the ol' D-Room or the 4 Peaks main stage, but the real story here is that they're teaming up with The Waybacks for a mini-traveling Americana festival. And while Bendites probably know about HBR and its bio-diesel lovin', sweet pickin' style, the Waybacks (who last played here about this time last year) may need an introduction - or perhaps a reintroduction.
Stevie Coyle, the band's fingerstyle guitarist and resident comedian, left the band last fall to work on his solo career, transforming the band into a four piece, single-guitar outfit. To cover Coyle's departure, guitarist James Nash decided to go electric from time to time and fiddle/mandolin prodigy Warren Hood has stepped into a more substantial role. The Waybacks will unveil the new format in March with the release of Loaded, an album with a less-traditional and more subdued feel than earlier records, but with attention to the bands Americana roots.
Another reason to check out this sure-to-get-your-feet-stompin show is the possibility of some collaborations. Oh, the beauty of teamwork.
