A strange comment, it might seem, but after word got around that the less-than-a-year old venue was going to discontinue its now-familiar stream of bands on weekend nights, some weren't quite sure what was next for the venue. But fear not, Summit owners say, there will still be entertainment on the second level of the massive nightspot, and in what might be music to some ears, the cover to reach the lofted dance floor is now gone on the weekends.
Since its opening, the Summit has quickly become one of the busiest (and quite likely the busiest) nightspot in Bend on Friday and Saturday nights. While the bar and restaurant has made a name for itself with a come-one-come-all ethos, most Friday and Saturday nights have seen the club hosting regional touring acts for a meager cover (typically just five bucks). But it was that cover, London said, that often kept the downstairs level substantially more packed than the upstairs dance floor.
London outlined a new plan of attack for the venue that will keep bands rolling through during the week and on Sundays, but will include DJs spinning tunes for no cover on Friday and Saturday nights. But that said, London said the Summit is keeping its options open and if a particular large-drawing national act is available to play on a Friday or Saturday, they'll bring them on stage.
"We don't want to be a disco, but we have to provide something and whatever we provide is going to be high quality," London said.
