Summer-run steelhead are spread throughout the lower river and most local rivers and lakes are still producing good trout, but it's time to put the fly rod down - at least for a few hours as the latest fish porn feature rolls into town in the form of Drift, an hour-long fly fishing documentary that includes footage from right here in Central Oregon. The segment, which highlights the increasingly popular sub-sport of spey fishing, was filmed last year on the Deschutes River with legendary guides and spey gurus John and Amy Hazel. The film was produced in conjunction with The Drake, a Colorado-based fly fishing magazine, and the local showing benefits the Upper Deschutes Wastershed Council and Oregon Trout. Veteran's Day just passed and the local music scene is paying tribute to the families of Central Oregon's fallen soldiers with this crossover show featuring music ranging from metal to hip-hop. Local blues guitar stalwart Greg Bryce (one half of the duo Blackflowersblacksun, along with drummer CJ Davis) is back from his summer job as a firefighter in Alaska and has returned to Bend to do what he does best: play super killer, gritty blues at the M&J Tavern. All right, so here's what happened. In the hours before we went to press we got word from the venerable members of Central Oregon's most humorous punk band, the Kronkmen, that they would be playing a show this weekend. And the reason? We'll use their words: "For the sole purpose of trying to raise awareness of monetary expectations for 20-something males." Huh? Gospel Choir of the Cascades: Plumpy Nut fundraiser

We all need a little gospel choir in our lives from time to time and this show should give you the dose you need, as well as a chance to contribute to an innovative charity called Project Peanut Butter. Sure, the name sounds a little goofy, but this project manufactures a life-saving food source called Plumpy'Nut. Made from peanut butter, powdered milk, sugar, oil, vitamins and minerals, Plumpy'Nut is saving the lives of malnourished children in Africa. 7pm at the United Methodist Church, located at 680 NW Bond Street.
