One of Canada's premiere hip-hop groups, which rolls as many as eight deep and played the WinterFest main stage a few years back, is returning to Bend. The group is known for its politically charged songwriting and the fact that, for whatever reason, they are wildly popular in American ski towns - like here. Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol

"Today, sir? Today's Christmas Day!" That line (or something like that line) will be uttered at some point during this production of the Dickens classic. The Bend Experimental Art Theatre is behind this production that includes both adults and youngsters from the local community. Last year, this production was a hit, so get your tickets for one of these shows soon - or else Scrooge is gonna be all up in your business. $15/ages 12 and under, $19 or 25/adults. Holiday Bluegrass Jamboree

You can have your "Jingle Bells" and "Deck the Halls" or Manheim Steamroller or whatever, but we'll opt for a more twangy holiday music event, thank you. This show features some familiar names like Blackstrap, Wild Rye and Greg Botsford, but the main attraction here very well might be the Bond Street Bluegrass All Stars, a name that might not ring any bells for local music fans, but includes Joe and Mai from Moon Mountain Ramblers. $5. Third Annual Night Jam

Those people who wish for night skiing at Mt. Bachelor will have that yearning satiated (kind of) this weekend when the Night Jam returns to the mountain. At this event, you'll see some of the area's most talented skiers and riders throwing themselves off of big ol' jumps in the hopes of taking home cash. Spectators are welcome and can jam out to the sounds of The Mostest in the Clearing Rock Bar while the action takes place. West Village Lodge. Registration from 1-3pm ($30 per person, helmets required). 3pm-7pm.
The Soulstice Jubilee

Technically, this show is a full three days before the actual winter solstice, but since they're spelling the name of this gig cleverly different, we're not going to think too deeply on it. Semantics aside, this show featuring Mosley Wotta and Eric Tollefson and the World's Greatest Lovers each playing big, full sets of fun-packed jams is a way to party away all your holiday stress and also funnel some money to the KIDS Center. Also, you should really think about hitting up tsweekly.com/blender and checking out the video of MoWo and Tollefson promoting the show. Bill Keale Holiday Concert

The holiday hits continue in this week's Picks section with this interesting twist on a Christmas concert by taking the celebration to the Hawaiian Islands with Bend's own Bill Keale. The Hawaiian crooner welcomes to the stage guests Kim Breedlove, Lyndon Onaka and Lynnette Foss of the Hokulea Dancers to help him warm up the holiday spirits of those of us who can't afford the airfare across the Pacific. 7pm Old Stone Church, 157 NW Franklin Ave.

One of Bend's literary treasures and one of the Source's fiction contest winners last year, Ellen Waterston has recently published Where the Crooked River Rises, a collection of essays about her time in Central Oregon. Renegade Roller Derby Bout: A Merry Massacre

The last holiday-themed event we'll share this week is probably the least ginger-bread-house-and-candy-cane-sort-of celebration you'll find this season. The Renegade Roller Derby skaters are getting out on the track or some no-holds-barred roller derby in the hopes that their friends and family had face punches on their Christmas lists.
