Deschutes Brewery Plans to Expand Brewpub

Bend's Deschutes Brewery pub is planning on expanding.

One of the biggest gripes you'll hear about the Deschutes Brewery pub in downtown Bend has nothing to do with the quality of the food or the beer, but rather the fact that the place is always crowded.

Well that will likely change by 2012 as the brewery announced today that it is planning a significant expansion of its brew pub, which has for more than two decades operated on Bond Street.

The plan for the expansion, as stated in a press release, is for a two-story addition directly south of the current restaurant. This is planned to include both indoor and outdoor balcony seating and a private dining space. There is also a plan to expand and modernize the kitchen.

“This expansion provides the opportunity to better serve our customers and reduce wait times for seating. This also gives us a chance for some new exciting upgrades to create a better overall experience for our guests,” said Deschutes food and beverage director Mike Cooper.

The addition is the result of a partnership with Doug Knight, who previously designed the St. Clair Place building downtown in 2010.

Construction is set to begin in early 2011.
