Cherry Poppin Daddies

There was a time, back in the mythical 1990s, when Cherry Poppin' Daddies had one of the hottest singles in all the land. Fueled by America's sudden interest in swing music and the dancing that often accompanies the style, "Zoot Suit Riot" became a massive hit and made the Eugene-based band one of the most-heard acts on radio. After a few years off, the Daddies returned to the stage and even appeared at an installment of the Bend Summer Festival a few years back. Now, they're returning to get the eclectic Munch and Music crowd up and swinging. 6pm. Drake Park. Free.
Volcanic Funk Fest

If you go to the Sound Section you'll learn all about how Bend is aiming to bring New Orleans to the High Desert, at least for one weekend, with this two-day festival of funky, funky music. The Volcanic Funk Fest is headlined on Saturday night by Big Sam's Funky Nation and also features a who's who of regional and national funk acts. Music begins 1pm both days. Nitty Gritty Dirt Band

This legendary band helped to invent the notion of country rock and by the time they released "Fishin' In the Dark" in 1987, they were already roots music legends. Having powered through several lineup changes and musical styles, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band has remained one of the most influential country acts of all time and their impact can be heard on just about every modern country track you're likely to hear on the radio these days. Moon Mountain Ramblers

Sure, you can see Moon Mountain Ramblers on a big stage from time to time in Bend, but where this bluegrass-crossover act really shines is at a community party like this installment of the Show Us Your Spokes Concert Series. Expect MMR to pull out plenty of fan favorites and covers as they once again pack the Parrilla parking lot. Remember to ride your bike or walk for discounted admission. 7pm. Art of the West

This juried art show features more than 30 artists with pieces depicting scenes and subjects inspired by the American West. The show opens on Saturday and extends through August 20. If you see something you like, you can place a silent bid (don't shout out the price to try to impress your date... that's just tacky) and you might soon have the piece on your wall. Charity and Chuckles Comedy Hour

The everywhere man of local comedy, Jake Woodmansee is joined by Dickey B and plenty other funny guys and gals at this charity comedy show, which is sure to give you some giggles with your pint of brew. Explore the Night

As much as we cherish the sunshine around here in the summer, there's plenty of outdoor adventure to be had when the moon comes up. You can check out the natural nocturnal world out at Tumalo State Park this week with a tour guided by a ranger who will teach you how to explore without light. Attorney General John Kroger

If you didn't already know, our state's attorney general, John Kroger, is a certified badass when it comes to throwing the hammer down on those who break environmental laws. In fact, he made a name for himself with such prosecution before being elected to his current position. Kroger will appear in Bend on Wednesday evening on the banks of the Deschutes to discuss the state's enforcement of environmental laws. 6pm-8pm Riverbend Park, 799 SW Columbia St.
Big Bad Voodoo Daddy

Wait a second. Didn't we have this band on the Picks page already? Oh, no, this is Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, the California swing band that happens to be playing Munch and Music one week after the similar-sounding and similarly named Cherry Poppin' Daddies. If you don't remember Voodoo Daddy, you'll likely be more familiar after a listen to "You and Me and the Bottle Makes 3." These guys were so huge back in 1999 that they played the Super Bowl Halftime show. For real! 5:30pm-9:30pm. Drake Park. Free.
