The Focused Brain: Learning the basics of Qigong with Kristina Bak

“It is what you make of it” would be a good introduction to some of qigong teacher Kristina Bak’s core philosophy. Bak says there is ample research suggesting that “focused attention affects outcome, and that our thoughts appear to literally change neural structures in our brains.” In addition to listing her classes and healing sessions, her website also features her paintings for sale.

tSW: Tell me a little about what you do?

KB: My work in this life is to relieve suffering -- physical, emotional, and spiritual. I use my skills in qigong, off-the-body energy therapies, counseling, art and intuitive guidance. I teach simple and useful ways to maintain well-being, happiness, and independence, and I love what I do.

tSW: Do you have any pets?

KB: I have a young white cat who is in training to be a healing companion.

tSW: Where are you from?

KB: We moved here from Bainbridge Island, near Seattle, but Australia is sort of a second home for me.

tSW: Why do you love Bend?

KB: I moved here with my husband and daughter in 1993 because I love sunny days, clear air and being outdoors in the mountains.

tSW: What do you like to do in your free time?

KB: Hiking, learning Argentine aocial tango (see bendtango.com), writing, painting, gardening.

tSW: If you could be any celebrity for a day who would it be and why?

KB: I would never want to be a celebrity.

tSW: What’s the last great concert you went to?

KB: We go to more theater and independent films than music concerts these days. The concert that had the most impact on my life, though, was probably Paul Winters in Bellingham, Washington, in, wait for it…1974!

tSW: Is there anything else you’d like to add?

KB: I’m always delighted to offer a free phone consultation to anyone who would like to be happier, healthier, stronger and more stress-free. Please email, or call to talk, or leave a voice mail. (No texting please.)
