Redmond’s Music in the Canyon season has some great acts lined up this summer starting with longtime Central Oregon country and cover music band Countryfied. With upcoming performances by Larry and His Flask, Downhill Ryder and the John Shipe Band out of Eugene this Wednesday night series is a great excuse to grab a picnic blanket and spend an evening in the park. Bite of Bend

Bite of Bend is not your standard fill-in-the-blank fest. The local food-oriented Top Chef competition alone makes this two-day event totally worth catching. But there’s more. The 5K Beer Run is a super silly fun run through Drake and Columbia Parks with three stops for beer provided by Cascade Lakes and Deschutes Brewery along the way. Register early and you get a growler at the finish ($5 fill). Back downtown, the Main Stage at the corner of Minnesota Avenue and Wall Street will be booming the best musical acts from Central Oregon. There’ll be bunches of small plates to sample and then there’s the booze! A mixology show and a Bartender’s Brawl will show off the area’s top cocktail creation talent. Kids area, too. It’s another shot at single track bragging rights and a chance to cheer on your glutton-for-punishment friends and family members in the annual Pickett’s Charge. The race begins at Wanoga and links Tiddlywinks and Funner Trails, including built-in splits for passing. There are short and technical passing lanes as well as some long, fast sections that reward bike handling and brute strength. Where the Yellowstone Goes

A small crew of adventure seekers embarks on a 30-day journey down the Yellowstone River beginning at its namesake national park in Montana and ending in Buford, N.D., at the confluence with the Missouri River. The film explores one of the great Western rivers from the perspective of dedicated fly anglers and the complicated and sometimes convoluted relationship between civilization and our last great natural resources. The Chicago Afrobeat Project makes a stop at Silvermoon Brewing in support of their new record Nyash Up. This eight-piece group is considered to be one of the top bands in the global beat genre combining elements of hip-hop, jazz and funk with a Nigerian music style.
