We like free stuff. Our part-time columnist Scoop Lewis, Ace Reporter (currently on a leave of absence) reallllly likes free stuff. Especially when he can pick up a bottle of Old Overcoat bourbon on BOGO day. Lewis is also fond of saying, “why pay for music when you can catch a show for free?” So in the spirit of Scoop, we’re endorsing this show. Tartufi

Sometimes furiously fast, sometimes drawn-out and dreamy, Tartufi’s experimental prog-rock is music for fans of REAL music. Sure, it might not be for everyone—it certainly isn’t pop—but if you can handle the offbeat drumming, melodies and looping, then you’ll be rewarded with some ultrasonic rock. It’s not uncommon for the Bay-Area threesome to stretch songs past the six-minute mark—without jamming. Madeline Peyroux has cited Patsy Cline, Édith Piaf, Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan as influences on her jazzy folk music. We think that those are some pretty legit idols, and Peyroux does them proud. Her smokey sweet voice has often been compared to jazz legend Billie Holiday and her sultry, poetic song writing will lull you into a world of smoke-filled cocktail parties. If the Bend Brew Fest is the modern day Bob Dylan—still awesome, but a little tired and far from a secret, then the Little Woody is Dylan in ’76—mature yet raw, enigmatic, counter-culture and powerful. This year the Little Woody is bringing in 15 different breweries, including Boneyard, Deschutes, Oakshire, Hopworks, 10 Barrel and Ninkasi, and all of ‘em will be pouring some of the most delicious, complex and high-gravity beers you’ve never tasted. It’s not just beers anymore either. Inside the Deschutes Historical Museum there’ll be five fine spirits for your sipping enjoyment and outside there’s food, non-alcoholic drink, music and even beer chats to help round out your day. Winos rejoice! Celebrate the beginning of the grape harvest at the third-annual grape stomp. Local winery, Maragas offers tastings and the opportunity to smash grapes for next year’s batch. If you had your feet in last year’s barrel you’ll be able to sample the fruits of your labor as Maragas releases their latest Beat Red! for tasting. Stomping contests and a barrel raffle will entertain along with live bluegrass from Back from the Dead.
