Events happening in the area that we are sure you will enjoy.

BendFilm

thursday 11 - sunday 14

This town is known for beer, biking, climbing, snow and fests of all sorts. That’s all well and good, but it’s nice to spice it up from time to time. Enter BendFilm. It’s the best excuse going to get spiffed up and hit the town. Learn about it all in the Culture section this week, and pick up a BendFilm guide, available all over town. Downtown Bend.

Vice Presidential Debate

thursday 11

While most everyone agrees the vice presidential debates are completely meaningless, they are a good reason to grab a beer and, perhaps, learn something new about the widows peak with legs and feisty bull dog who are in the running. A part of the continuing series “TV at the Tin Pan,” the event encourages heckling and heavy drinking. Take a drink every time Biden says “Osama is dead” and Ryan mentions marathon. 6 p.m. Tin Pan Theater, 869 NW Tin Pan Alley.

Evil Dead the Musical

friday 12 – saturday 27

An ancient evil force is accidentally awakened by a group of campers in a remote cabin in the woods and the result is mayhem, murder and music. Evil Dead the Musical is a hilarious adaptation of the low budget horror film starring Ash, a hardware store worker turned demon slayer. Do yourself a favor and don’t wear your Sunday best as spurting blood is as much a part of the show as the chainsaw Ash wields or his dismembered hand. 2nd Street Theater, 220 NE Lafayette Ave.

Fall Harvest Hoe-Down and Pig Roast

saturday 13

Celebrate all things fall with games, music and a harvest feast. Play horseshoes, make corncob dolls, carve pumpkins and press apples in the spirit of the season. The buffet style meal will include an entire roast pig, local roasted root vegetables, corn on the cob, local sides and desserts, as well as local wine and beer. The after dark New Moon Dance Party with local Celtic rockers Five Pint Mary will get cooking at around 9 p.m. The festival is a benefit for the Local Commerce Alliance and the Locavore Store.  BYO-moonshine. All proceeds go to offset the cost of recent equipment purchases. 3 to 6 p.m. Aspen Hall, Shevlin Park.

Alternative hip-hop duo Zion I uphold the Bay area’s tradition of top-notch rap music. After 15 years on the scene, the guys are best known for producer DJ AmpLive’s futuristic production techniques, mixing live instrumentation and samples, and MC Zumbi’s socially conscious lyrics. Joined by special guests electro-hip-hoppers Vokab Kompany, German Eurodance group, Minnesota and gypsy rockers Diego's Umbrella— there is something to please everyone on this eclectic bill. $18 at Bendticket.com. All Ages. 8:30 p.m. Domino Room, 51 NW Greenwood.

Sara Jackson-Holman

wednesday 17

Singer-songwriter and former Bend local, Sara Jackson-Holman is a classically trained pianist who has transformed her formal roots into pop gold. Incorporating strings, synthesizers, and rich harmonies, her music is entrancing and her catchy choruses will stay stuck in your head for hours after her smoky alto fades away. Holman’s music has been featured in the background of dramatic montages on ABC’s Castle, CW’s The Ringer and MTV’s Chelsea Settles so you might even recognize a tune or two. Free. All ages. 7 p.m. McMenamins Old St. Francis School, 700 NW Bond St.

Ignite Bend
wednesday 17

Think of it as a poetry slam for Power Point people. Ignite Bend mashes up the traditional slideshow presentation with improvisational entertainment, wraps it all up in a blanket of community education and serves it up with a dose of humor and insight. Next week’s event marks the ninth incarnation of the local Ignite series and is highlighted by performances from 10 local speakers who will cover everything from motherhood to skydiving. Free. $5 suggested donation. Doors at 6:30 p.m. All ages. Tickets are first come first served at Tower Box office night of show.  Tower Theatre, 835 NW Wall St.

Get Ready for Winter with Skyliners Winter Sports Swap and Pray for Snow Party

saturday 13

Drop or swap old gear and pick up some shiny new equipment for the upcoming snow season. You can leave old gear on Thursday from 12 to 6 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.  All will be sold on Saturday. MBSEF will help you price your items and retains about 30 percent of the sale price of your stuff. A Central Oregon tradition for over 30 years, the swap is in a new location, so don’t show up at the Bus Barn! $5 at the door, families $10. 8a.m. to 5 p.m. Sports Swap, 149 SE 9th St.

It may only be October, but as temperatures drop, prayers for snow have already begun to ascend to the wintry Gods. After you get your new gear at the MBSEF swap, join Bend’s winter sport elite in a cry for a long and chilly year in our backyard mountains at GoodLife. The party is a benefit in support of measure 9-86, which moves to complete the Deschutes River Trail and make safe the Colorado Spillway. Expect raffle and door prizes, and if you’ve got an adorable pup, the Snow Dog photo contest could earn you gear from Ruff Wear. On top of all that awesome stuff there will be live music from The Pitchfork Revolution, Tone Red, Wild Rye and Truckstop Gravy. $5 at the door, families $10. 4 p.m. GoodLife Brewing, 70 SW Century Dr.
