Out of Town: 1/24 - 1/30

If the title of this play doesn't convince you to see it, there is nothing I can say that will change your mind. If you're anything like me, the title is now all you can think about. You're currently trying to discern whether the varsity cheerleaders are werewolves from outer space, or whether there will be outer space werewolves preying on varsity cheerleaders, right? The intrigue is undeniable, and this one-time performance of Steve Coker's play, set in a 1980s high school, promises blood-sucking aliens, super-short mini-skirts and ironically bad acting. AWESOME. Weird Al Yankovic ain't got nothin' on Dr. Demento. The legendary novelty musician will discuss a time when his songs were too controversial to be played on the radio, way back when radio was a thing. With titles like "Dead Puppies," "Fish Heads" and "Peter Percival Patterson's Pet Pig Porky", it makes sense that some of Demento's more risqué songs were not favorites of the mainstream radio, but they did get him inducted into the Comedy Music Hall of Fame and the National Radio Hall of Fame. 7 p.m. Reed College.

Taking over a former BMW dealership, the Onn/Off Arts Festival is back for the second year with the goal of bringing warmth and light to the dreary, rainy Seattle winter. The weekend will be filled with visual art, performances, installations, projections, music, food and drink, and workshops that in some way use "light." Get some serious vitamin D and enjoy some of Seattle's most talented artists doing what they do best. You can even get an aseasonal sunburn, or a stick and poke tattoo from one of Seattle's finest contemporary artists. 715 Pine St. 5 p.m. Saturday, 11 a.m. Sunday.

In early 2012, J. Tillman left his post as heavenly harmonizer and drummer for the Fleet Foxes to pursue other endeavors. Tillman described those endeavors in one interview by saying, "I got into my van with enough mushrooms to choke a horse and started driving down the coast with nowhere to go." Best. Decision. Ever. What resulted is the album Fear Fun, an acid-drenched tribute to the mess that is Hollywood, and Tillman's alter ego, Father John Misty. Misty's sense of humor and whiskey-drunk psychedelic dance moves made him one of my favorite reborn artists, and one of my favorite live performances of 2012. Don't miss him. Neptune Theater. 8 p.m.
