PSU Creates "The Business of Craft Brewing" program

Still think you can sneak another brewery in before Bend's beer bubble bursts?

Might want to take a quick timeout for a new certificate program at Portland State University—it's the state's latest acknowledgement that beer industry is here to stay.

"No place in the US has the concentration of quality, innovative craft brewers as Portland,” said Scott Dawson, dean of the School of Business at Portland State University. “It just makes sense that we help entrepreneurs become more successful by providing them real-world training and exposure to industry professionals.”

The certificate focuses not just on the business of breweries but also distilleries and alcoholic cider facilities.

The program is likely to cost around $2,800 with most of the coursework being online only. Two additional classes are also available—an immersion weekend on site at breweries in the Portland area and final internship project that teams students with professionals in the industry.

Those enrolling in the program may find themselves learning from the industries best including program partners Widmer Brothers brewing, Rogue Ales, Hopworks Urban Brewery, Bull Run Distilling, Migration Ales, Western Malting, JV Northwest, Metalcraft Fabrication and Captured by Porches brewing.
