“On Monday, to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the BLM invites families to spend the day together enjoying America’s rich public lands heritage,” Brian Steed, BLM Deputy Director said.

Places like the Oregon Badlands Wilderness, which has over 50 miles of hiking on five trails, will offer free parking Monday, Jan. 15.

Although individual day-use fees will be waived, people should know other fees, such as cabin rentals and overnight camping, will still have their standard fee structure.

The BLM administers over 15 million acres in Oregon, many of them surrounding Bend.
To reach the Oregon Badlands from Bend, travel east on Highway 20 for 18 miles, turn left and follow the road for another mile to the parking lot and trailheads.
