Re: “19th Annual Pilot Butte Challenge

Many said it was the best Challenge ever. I tend to agree. There is a new model involving the wider community and it's a more modern version of this classic race by becoming more rooted in the Bend we all love.

Re: “From Butte Lady to Butte Dude

You very rarely see someone actually not pick up after their dog. It's dpne when no one is looking. The campaign I'm talking about makes it clear that everyone out there is paying extra carefull attention. For example, someone might come across fresh poop and someone with a dog just passed them. So thet shout of the trail, "hey, did you leave this here?" It would take to long to explain how you get that to happen but it's really simple when you have the stuff. Two or three weeks later the problem is solved and it lasts at least a couple of years.

Re: “From Butte Lady to Butte Dude

Sounds like you guys need to run the campaign again. Takes a couple of weeks and lasts for years. How long are you there? You just need to get Susan's permission and we can send you what you need. Pretty easy.

Re: “Quick Fit

These shoes are the bomb. I wear mine all the time. I plan to put some screws in soon to see how they do on trails covered with snow and ice. I'm thinking the sole is going to work better than my normal running shoes.

Re: “Dear Tenant, You Must Vacate the Premises

I guess it's okay if everyone is doing it or if you derive some benefit monetarily or get rid of an eyesore on your block. The golden rule isn't even an afterthought anymore. What's happened to Bend?

Re: “Take Me Home 1/6-1/13

There is a shortage of long term RV spaces in CO and especially in Bend. Monthly rates keep rising and, to add insult to injury, there's now a 9 percent lodging tax even for long term space rental. It's like a double tax because the park owner is already paying property tax. In the summer some parks are charging $1200+ per month plus electric. Tiny homes won't work in CO without major code changes. Last I heard Bend might embrace tiny home developments. I'm sure they will sell but it kind of misses the point of the movement. If you really want to see tiny homes in Bend it will require major changes in political thinking and then complicated code changes so the movement aspect can work. I don't see Bend embracing that because it doesn't generate enough money in fees.

Re: “Save Pilot Butte supporter urges City to appeal land use decision

It seems like it's time for sweeping changes in Bend. This little experience has been way too frustrating. People shouldn't have to work this hard to correct a few problems that everyone sees. Then they definitely shouldn't be finding problems the city missed and taxpayers may need to fix down the road. Developers and property owners should have broad rights but not so broad that they cost the city/taxpayers money with the problems they create. Government is supposed to be paying attention and on top of things. Look at all the problems we have. You try solving the housing crisis and you end up creating a bunch of other crises. It all seems to be going the wrong direction fast. Someone needs to get a handle on all of this. I'm beginning to wonder if anyone in place now can.
