Re: “

Source Weekly, hello, are you there? These are really important issues. Did you do some actual research and reportage? Are you working on it? We the People are curious. We can't exactly count on the conservative Bend Bulletin to cover this honestly. Who can we count on?

Re: “

Another idea -- Lawmakers and hospital administrators alike could read Joe Flower's work on the future of health care. His website is http://www.imaginewhatif.com . I haven't read all his books but I've seen videos of his talks, and he's interesting, has good ideas that aren't aligned with any particular political party.

Re: “

Could we see a more thorough analysis of this issue, and not just take the hospital's word for everything? How does this relate to just two years ago, Oregon hospitals including St Charles making record bank $$ under Obamacare/ACA? (see http://www.bendbulletin.com/health/4535632… ).

According to that article, "St. Charles Bend reported net income of $62.5 million and a profit margin of 12 percent in 2015. It was the hospitals second straight year of double-digit profits, after seven years of margins ranging from 3.5 percent to 7.5 percent." Did they honestly not save a few ducats for a rainy day? Is this article and St Charles's PR spin just putting pressure on the legislature?

I have no horse in this race---I need quality medical care in Central Oregon, but beyond that, I don't really care if there's a hospital tax or not... but to me, this reads like a flimsy PR piece from a huge medical organization, one that also happens to have a monopoly on our region. The article doesn't mention the effect of hospital monopolies on local health care costs. It doesn't mention the havoc that the Trump and Republican threats to pull the ACA might be wreaking. Surely we deserve better coverage, rather than just parroting what St. Charles says?

Re: “Go Outdoors, #LikeAGirl

Fantastic article! More like this, please.

And good on ya for recommending the P Style. Back in the Dark Ages, I tried all kinds of contraptions for a quick standing outdoor pee (medical "urinals" for ladies, a plastic cup device proffered by a Burning Man camp) and found nothing that worked. Years later P Style emerged, with hand-drawn graphics of a butch gal takin' a leak. Then I started seeing cutesy pink foldable ones at places like the AAA office (!!). I dutifully tried all of them. P Style definitely rules! I have two.

Re: “The Debate Over the Elliott

I have mentioned it briefly on postcards to the head of State Treasury, Mr. Read, who is from what I understand tasked with seeing that these lands generate revenue rather than costing the state more money to maintain...

Re: “The Debate Over the Elliott

I'd like to see the state find better, more ecologically sound ways to generate a little cash from Elliott State Forest. Why is this issue ususally presented as Either/Or (to make a different Elliott reference)?

Let's go for Both/And. Retain state ownership of the forest, and task supporters of that effort with (for free) finding creative, useful ways to allow some small amount of commercial activity on the land to generate revenue. For example, set aside 25 acres for an eco-tourism resort or a sustainability-focused co-housing farm, and find a private partner to make some money at that.
