Bon Iver Is Back

Stream & Download Calgary, the first cut from the new Bon Iver album set to drop 06/21/2011.

In 2008, the music world was treated to one of the most impressive collections of songs ever recorded in Bon Iver's debut album For Emma, Forever Ago.

That was later followed up with the haunting EP, Blood Bank. Then, in late 2009, Wisconsin bornJustin Vernon, (the man behind Bon Iver) announced suddenly that he was suspending touring as Bon Iver indefinitely.

Abit of afickle guy, Vernon could easily be described as a music genius who definitely has a hard time sitting still. Manyprojects followed after those Bon Iver releases, including Volcano Choir (with Collection of Colonies Of Bees), a collaboration with several artists for Gayngs 2010 album Relayted, as well as an appearance on the album I named 2010's best, Anais Mitchell's folk opera Hadestown,in which Vernon plays the male lead of Orpheus and pretty much causes you to become completely lost in his character.

Now... 3 years after that first Bon Iver album and rumors for two of those years that songs were being worked on in between tours and side projects, the new album is a reality and releases on 6/21/2011. The first track, titled "Calgary" can be heard below and delivers classic soothing Vernon vocals while keeping that slightly experimental rock sound just a touch under the surface (though it is sure to explode on other tracks from the new LP). It's not a new sound for Bon Iver... but it is more of what made them great and exactly what fans have been hoping for.
