City to Address 3rd St. Flooding

City of Bend staff have scheduled a public meeting next week to discuss the potential impact of a planned closure of the 3rd Street underpass near Wilson Avenue on residents and area businesses.

City of Bend staff have scheduled a public meeting next week to discuss the potential impact of a planned closure of the 3rd Street underpass on residents and area businesses.

The city has looked at three potential alternatives to address persistent flooding at the 3rd Street underpass near Wilson. In the long term, the city believes that new catch basins, natural swales and pumps will alleviate the water collection issue at the 70-plus year old railroad underpass, one of several within the city that continue to be hounded by flooding. In the short term, however, the city is wrestling with how to deal with the disruption to traffic flows. Options range from an accelerated round round the clock closure for roughly 30 days to a nights-only closure that would stretch out over three months.

Interested parties can look at the plans and discuss the project with city staff during the open house that runs from 5-7pm, Weds. March 14.
